The iPhone Duo is the pick if you will regularly unfold your phone to use its larger screen; the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are better fits if you value camera flexibility, a familiar single-screen design, or a lower starting price. All three use Apple’s A20 Pro chip, so the Duo’s main distinction is its foldable form—not a faster processor.
What changes when you choose the Duo?
A larger screen that folds down
Apple announced the Duo with a 5.4-inch outer display and a 7.6-inch inner display. The iPhone 18 Pro has a conventional 6.3-inch screen, while the Pro Max has a 6.9-inch screen. Those are Apple’s rounded announcement measurements; its comparison page lists standard-rectangle diagonals of 5.36 and 7.58 inches for Duo, and 6.27 and 6.86 inches for the Pro models.

The Duo’s advantage is the option to open a larger canvas while keeping a smaller outer display for folded use. That is useful only if you expect to unfold it often—for reading, viewing content, or other tasks where extra screen area matters. The Pro Max already offers a large, uninterrupted conventional display without unfolding.
Apple says the Duo’s inner display is 50 percent larger than the iPhone 18 Pro Max’s. That is Apple’s own screen-area comparison, not an independently reproduced measurement. Apple’s Duo announcement and its model comparison page provide the display figures.

The processor is not a reason to pay more
Apple identifies A20 Pro as the chip in the Duo, iPhone 18 Pro, and iPhone 18 Pro Max. The available specifications do not establish a chip-generation or headline processor advantage for the Duo over either Pro model.
Which model has the camera advantage?
The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are the stronger choice on camera versatility. Apple calls their cameras its most advanced iPhone camera system and highlights a 48MP Fusion Main camera with variable aperture. MacRumors’ feature comparison says the Duo lacks the Pro models’ dedicated telephoto camera and professional capture options.

That does not establish how the phones compare in real-world image quality; the cited information is a feature comparison, not an independent camera test. But if you want the Pro camera options Apple describes, the Pro models are the clear fit. The Duo’s higher price should not be taken as evidence that it is the more capable camera phone. | Model | US starting price reported by MacRumors |
|---|---|
| iPhone 18 Pro | $1,199 |
| iPhone 18 Pro Max | $1,299 |
| iPhone Duo | $1,999 |
These are regional, time-sensitive starting prices from a secondary source, not universal prices. Check Apple or a local seller for current pricing where you live. At the reported US starting prices, the Duo costs substantially more than either Pro model, so its foldable screen needs to be a feature you will actually use to justify the premium.

Apple describes the Duo as offering all-day battery life and highlights major battery improvements for the Pro models, especially the Pro Max. Those manufacturer descriptions do not establish which phone lasts longer in comparable everyday use; no independent head-to-head battery result is available here.

Apple announced the Duo’s foldable design and precision hinge, but those launch details do not establish long-term hinge reliability, fold endurance, or how visible the crease is in ordinary use. Buyers weighing a foldable against a conventional phone should treat those as unanswered real-world questions rather than proven advantages or defects.
Availability and charging details
Apple announced that iPhone Duo preorders would begin October 16, 2026, with sales availability starting October 23, 2026. Those dates were still in the future when Apple made the announcement on September 9, 2026; check Apple’s current regional store listing for availability.
For fast wired charging, Apple says the Duo requires a USB-C cable rated for 60W or higher and a USB Power Delivery adapter. Check the current product listing for what is included and confirm accessory compatibility before buying.
