A reported 30% increase on the previously cited estimate of 6–7 million iPhone Duo units works out to about 7.8–9.1 million—not a precise 10 million. The reports attribute both figures to supply-chain reporting; Apple has not published an iPhone Duo production or shipment total. “Close to 10 million” is a characterization in coverage, not a confirmed figure.
What the 30% report actually says
On October 12, 2026, 9to5Mac reported that China’s Securities Times said Apple had raised iPhone Duo supply-chain orders by 30%. The coverage put total supply for the remainder of 2026 below 10 million and cited earlier estimates of 6–7 million units. Its description of the new target as likely “close to 10 million” is an inference, not a precise total stated in the source report.

GMT EIGHT, reporting on October 10, also attributed a 30% order increase and a total below 10 million to Apple supply-chain sources. These are reported claims, not figures announced by Apple.
How does a 30% increase get close to 10 million?
Applying the reported increase to the cited prior range gives:

The calculation does not reach 10 million. The figures could be described loosely as approaching 10 million, or the report could be using a different baseline or definition of orders; the cited coverage does not resolve which. The reported claim is that supply remains below 10 million, not that it equals 10 million.
Orders, shipments and sales are different measures
A supply-chain order increase is not the same as a forecast of units shipped, and neither establishes how many phones consumers ultimately buy. The Mac Observer summarized two third-party shipment forecasts for 2026: TrendForce expected about 5 million iPhone Duo shipments, while analyst Jeff Pu expected 6 million, revised down from 7 million. Those forecasts measure expected shipments; they should not be substituted for the reported order figures or treated as actual sales.

MacRumors summarized earlier Jiemian News reporting that a source close to Foxconn’s supply chain put final-assembly yield slightly above 60% as of September 17, 2026, and described reported display and hinge component constraints. These are attributed supply-chain details, not Apple manufacturing disclosures, and they are a dated snapshot rather than a current production measure.

The Mac Observer’s September 2026 summary also listed a US starting price of $1,999, preorders beginning October 16, and availability beginning October 23, 2026. Those dates and price do not reveal how many units will be available at launch.
