Both models had launched by October 5, 2026. That price gap is not a current retailer comparison or a matched-storage comparison, so the fairest choice depends on the configuration you want, the features you value, and the ecosystem you already use.
How much more is the iPhone 18 Pro Max?
The iPhone 18 Pro Max’s U.S. launch starting price was $1,299; Google set the Pixel 11 Pro’s U.S. launch starting price at $1,099. The $200 difference is calculated from those manufacturer-announced launch prices. Apple announced its phone on September 9, 2026, with availability beginning September 18. Google announced the Pixel 11 Pro on August 12 and said it would be on shelves August 20; Google confirmed the Pixel 11 phones were on sale on August 25.

Specifications and performance descriptions in this table come from the manufacturers’ announcements, not independent comparative testing. The display brightness figure is Google’s stated peak rating; Google says it is measured at a 5% on-pixel ratio. A manufacturer’s maximum or feature description does not by itself establish how two phones compare in everyday use.

Storage changes the price comparison
Apple lists iPhone 18 Pro Max capacities of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB. Google says the Pixel 11 Pro starts at 256GB. Since the $1,299 and $1,099 figures are starting prices and do not establish prices for matched configurations, use them as a comparison of entry prices—not as the cost difference between phones with a particular shared storage capacity.
Which phone has the better camera?
The launch claims point to different camera capabilities, but they are not enough to name a winner. Apple highlights a 48MP Fusion Main camera with variable aperture and describes the iPhone 18 Pro Max as having its most advanced iPhone camera system. Google highlights a new main sensor, a redesigned 48MP telephoto with 30% more light sensitivity, Portrait Mode at 5x, and Pro Zoom up to 120x.

These specifications describe different features and are not a like-for-like measure of image quality. A fair verdict would require independent tests comparing the same subjects, zoom levels, lighting, and shooting modes. Choose based on the camera modes you actually use, and consult comparable reviews if image quality is the deciding factor.

Chips
The iPhone uses Apple’s A20 Pro, while the Pixel 11 Pro uses Google Tensor G6. Apple identifies A20 Pro as the chip powering its new Pro lineup; Google calls Tensor G6 its fastest and most powerful chip yet. Those are manufacturer descriptions, not benchmark results, so they do not establish which phone is faster for a particular task.

Display and charging
Google says the Pixel 11 Pro’s Super Actua display is rated for up to 3,600 nits, measured at a 5% on-pixel ratio, and lists Qi 2.2 25W compatibility. The cited Apple announcement does not establish a complete, directly comparable display and charging specification for the iPhone 18 Pro Max. These details therefore should not be treated as a head-to-head display or charging verdict.
Software updates
Google promises seven years of OS, security, and Pixel Drop updates for Pixel 11 phones. The Apple announcement cited here does not provide a matching support-duration commitment for the iPhone 18 Pro Max. The stated Google commitment should not be taken to mean Apple has an identical policy.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Choosing between iOS and Android
The two phones belong to different software ecosystems. The manufacturer announcements cited here do not establish that one ecosystem is broadly better. Before switching, consider the devices and services you already rely on, the apps you need, and the cost or effort of moving data and replacing accessories. If you are already invested in one ecosystem, compatibility may matter more than a headline camera or chip specification.
