The 2024 Pro generation combined larger displays and the A18 Pro chip with camera and audio upgrades. Apple also positioned the phones as built for Apple Intelligence; the launch announcement described the feature, but availability depends on software, language and region.
#1 Best Overall
- Titanium frame combines strength and lightness, giving the iPhone 16 Pro a premium feel while reducing weight for prolonged daily use. The polished edges and textured back enhance grip and handling, making it easier to use during long calls, gaming sessions, or when capturing photos and videos on the move.
- Larger displays: iPhone 16 Pro has a 6.3-inch display and Pro Max has a 6.9-inch display, compared with 6.1 and 6.7 inches on the preceding Pro models.
- Camera Control: A new physical control provides a way to access and adjust camera functions.
- Camera upgrades: The 48MP Fusion camera supports 4K video at 120 frames per second in Dolby Vision. The Ultra Wide camera also moved to 48MP.
- Long-range zoom across both sizes: Both Pro models gained a 5x Telephoto camera, rather than reserving that feature for the larger model.
- Audio and construction: Apple highlighted studio-quality microphones and a titanium design.
- Battery: Apple said battery life improved and described the Pro Max as having the best battery life ever offered on an iPhone at launch. Actual runtime depends on use and conditions.
Apple called 4K120 Dolby Vision the highest resolution and frame-rate combination then available on iPhone. That is Apple’s launch-era comparison, not a claim about later iPhone generations.

Which size makes more sense?
- Choose Pro if you want the smaller, lighter phone and the lower UK launch price. It also offers the same 5x Telephoto reach and core camera features as Pro Max.
- Choose Pro Max if you prefer the larger 6.9-inch display, need more starting storage, or prioritize Apple’s stronger battery-life claim. It is larger and heavier and cost £200 more at UK launch.
Launch finishes, storage and durability
Apple offered black titanium, natural titanium, white titanium and desert titanium finishes. Storage options were 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB, with the Pro Max starting at 256GB.
Apple’s environmental report describes both phones as having the latest-generation Ceramic Shield and IP68 water and dust resistance. IP68 is a laboratory rating, not a promise that a phone is immune to water or dust damage. Apple’s launch release also said the devices contained more than 25% recycled content overall, including 100% recycled aluminum in the internal structural frame and at least 80% recycled steel across multiple components.
