It combines a titanium design, a customizable Action button, the A17 Pro chip, a Pro camera system and USB-C. It is distinct from the larger iPhone 15 Pro Max, especially in its telephoto camera: the Pro has 3x optical zoom, while the Pro Max has 5x.
What makes the iPhone 15 Pro a Pro model?
In Apple’s 2023 iPhone lineup, “Pro” identifies the higher-feature model rather than a different name for the standard iPhone 15. The iPhone 15 Pro’s defining features include its titanium design, Action button, A17 Pro chip, upgraded camera system and USB 3 data-transfer support through USB-C. Apple’s announcement describes the lineup as “the most pro lineup we have ever created”; that is Apple’s product positioning, not an independent performance finding.

What are the iPhone 15 Pro’s main specifications?
| Feature | iPhone 15 Pro specification |
|---|---|
| Display | 6.1-inch OLED with Dynamic Island, Always-On display and ProMotion adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz |
| Chip | Apple A17 Pro |
| Size and weight | 146.6 mm high, 70.6 mm wide and 8.25 mm deep; 187 g |
| Storage options | 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB |
| Finishes | Black, White, Blue and Natural Titanium |
| Water-resistance rating | IP68 under IEC 60529; tested in controlled laboratory conditions to a maximum depth of 6 meters for up to 30 minutes |
These are Apple’s listed specifications, not independent comparative measurements. Apple also lists up to 23 hours of video playback; its battery claims depend on network configuration and other factors, and actual results vary.
How do the iPhone 15 Pro cameras work?
The rear camera system includes a 48MP main camera, a 12MP ultra-wide camera and 12MP telephoto options. Apple lists both 2x and 3x telephoto capabilities: the 2x option is enabled by the quad-pixel sensor, while the 3x telephoto is the dedicated telephoto camera. That distinction matters when comparing it with the Pro Max.

How is the iPhone 15 Pro different from the Pro Max?
| Model | Screen size | Telephoto camera |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone 15 Pro | 6.1 inches | 3x telephoto; also offers a 2x option enabled by the quad-pixel sensor |
| iPhone 15 Pro Max | 6.7 inches | 5x telephoto |
The Pro Max is a separate, larger model, not another name for the iPhone 15 Pro. The comparison above focuses on screen size and telephoto capability; it does not establish a broad performance difference between the two.
What does USB-C support on the iPhone 15 Pro?
The USB-C connector supports charging, DisplayPort and USB 3 data transfer at up to 10Gb/s when paired with a USB 3 cable. The cable included in the box is a 1-meter USB-C charge cable; Apple’s listed transfer speed specifically requires a USB 3 cable, so not every USB-C cable provides that data rate. Apple’s fast-charge test used a 20W adapter or higher, sold separately.

What should buyers know about water resistance, SIM and the box?
- Water resistance: The IP68 rating describes Apple’s controlled laboratory test, not a guarantee against water damage.
- SIM and cellular details: Apple’s U.S. technical-specifications page says iPhone 15 Pro models use eSIM and are not compatible with physical SIM cards. Cellular features and bands depend on model number, configuration, region and carrier, so U.S. details should not be assumed for every market.
- In the box: Apple lists the iPhone, a 1-meter USB-C charge cable and documentation. A power adapter and EarPods are not included.
