The iPhone 15 Plus is Apple’s larger-screen model in the iPhone 15 family, introduced in September 2023. What the iPhone 15 Plus is
The iPhone 15 Plus is not a separate product line. It is the Plus-size member of the iPhone 15 family, sitting alongside the standard iPhone 15, which Apple lists with a 6.1-inch display. Apple’s identification guide describes the rear as color-infused glass and the frame as contoured-edge anodized aluminum (Apple Support, Identify your iPhone model).

Apple has released newer iPhone models since 2023. The specifications below describe the 2023 handset as Apple documented it at launch and on its support pages. If you are evaluating a used, refurbished, or resold unit, confirm the exact model on Apple’s iPhone 15 Plus tech specs page, because some details (such as SIM configuration) depend on the region the phone was sold in.

How to tell it apart from the iPhone 15
Screen size is the most reliable visible difference. The table below lists the points that Apple’s published material supports for each model.

Because the two phones share a chip and many features, do not rely on the processor or the Dynamic Island alone. Check the display size and the model number before concluding that a device is a Plus.
Identify the exact model number and region
Apple assigns the iPhone 15 Plus a different model number depending on where it was sold. The model number is the most precise identifier, and it also tells you whether the phone has a physical SIM tray.

Apple states that models sold in countries or regions other than the United States have a tray for a physical nano-SIM. The SIM information above is Apple’s stated configuration, so a phone bought abroad or imported may differ from what a listing claims.
Checking a phone you already have
- Open Settings, then tap General, then tap About.
- Find the Model Number line. Its A-number (for example, A2847) should match one of the four entries in the table above.
- Confirm that the number is a 15 Plus model by checking the screen size against the 6.7-inch figure. A model number on its own does not state the product name, so Apple’s identification guide is the reference if the numbers are unclear.
- If the phone is in your hand and the model number is missing or unreadable, compare the physical SIM tray and the screen size, then check the box label or original receipt.

Display
- 6.7-inch diagonal OLED with a 2796-by-1290-pixel resolution at 460 ppi.
- Supports Dynamic Island, HDR, True Tone, and P3 wide color.
- Apple notes that the standard-rectangle diagonal is 6.69 inches and that the actual viewable area is smaller.
Processor and cameras
- A16 Bionic chip with a 6-core CPU, 5-core GPU, and 16-core Neural Engine.
- Rear cameras: a 48MP Main camera and a 12MP Ultra Wide camera.
- Apple also describes a 12MP 2x telephoto option that uses the quad-pixel sensor.
Connector and charging
- USB-C supports charging, DisplayPort, and USB 2 data up to 480 Mb/s.
- Apple’s fast-charge specification refers to a 20W-or-higher adapter paired with a USB-C cable. The adapter is sold separately, so the phone’s box does not include one by default.
Battery claims
- Video playback: up to 26 hours.
- Streamed video playback: up to 20 hours.
- Audio playback: up to 100 hours.
These are Apple’s stated maximums under its test conditions. Actual battery life depends on settings, network conditions, and usage.
Water and dust resistance
The phone carries an IP68 rating under IEC standard 60529. Apple specifies a maximum depth of 6 meters for up to 30 minutes. This rating describes controlled testing. It is not a recommendation to expose the phone to water on purpose, and it does not cover every liquid or condition.

Buying accessories for an iPhone 15 Plus
A case, screen protector, or charger listed for the iPhone 15 Plus is designed around the 6.7-inch body. Match the listing to “iPhone 15 Plus” specifically. A generic “iPhone 15” label does not confirm that an accessory fits the larger model.
Because the phone charges over USB-C, a USB-C cable and a compatible power adapter are the most relevant secondary purchases. Use Apple’s specification for the 20W-or-higher adapter as the baseline when you want the fast-charge behavior Apple describes.

Launch context and Apple’s claims
Apple introduced the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus in September 2023 and described the A16 Bionic chip as the processor that powers both models, including the Dynamic Island and computational photography features (Apple Newsroom, Apple debuts iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus). That is Apple’s own product description, not an independent performance assessment.
Independent reviewers have not been cited here, so this article does not report hands-on testing or benchmark results.
The model’s defining features are its larger 6.7-inch display, its A16 Bionic chip, its dual rear cameras, its USB-C connector, and its model-number-based region configuration. Use those points, rather than general marketing language, to identify the phone.
