The iPhone 16 is the newer choice, with USB-C, Apple Intelligence eligibility and newer camera features. The iPhone 14 Pro still has two standout advantages: an adaptive 120Hz ProMotion display with Always-On and a dedicated 3x telephoto camera. Both support iOS 26, but there is no reliable universal price gap: the 14 Pro is a resale purchase, while the iPhone 16 has current new-phone pricing.

Specifications are from Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro technical specifications and iPhone 16 technical specifications. Apple’s playback figures are company estimates, not results from a direct test between the two phones. Chip names indicate the generations of hardware; they do not establish a particular real-world speed advantage.

Which display is better?

iPhone 14 Pro: smoother scrolling and Always-On

The 14 Pro’s adaptive refresh rate reaches 120Hz, which can make scrolling and supported animations appear smoother than on a conventional 60Hz display. Its Always-On feature can show information while the display is idle. Apple lists both features for the 14 Pro.

iPhone 16: same stated size, without listed ProMotion

Both phones have 6.1-inch OLED displays, but Apple does not list ProMotion or Always-On for the iPhone 16. Choose the 14 Pro if those display features matter more than having the newer phone; choose the 16 if matching screen size is enough and the other upgrades appeal to you.

How do their cameras differ?

iPhone 14 Pro: a separate 3x telephoto lens

The 14 Pro has a dedicated 12MP 3x telephoto camera in addition to its 48MP main and 12MP ultrawide cameras. That separate lens gives it a distinct role for framing distant subjects. It also supports Apple ProRAW, which is useful for photographers who want a more flexible file for editing.

iPhone 16: 2x framing, macro and Camera Control

The iPhone 16 has a 48MP main camera and a 12MP ultrawide. Its 2x telephoto framing comes from the main camera’s sensor rather than a separate telephoto lens. Apple also lists macro photography and Camera Control for the 16. These are different camera systems and workflows; megapixel counts alone do not establish which takes better photos overall.

Rank #2
Apple iPhone 16 Pro, 128GB, Black Titanium - Unlocked (Renewed)
  • Titanium frame combines strength and lightness, giving the iPhone 16 Pro a premium feel while reducing weight for prolonged daily use. The polished edges and textured back enhance grip and handling, making it easier to use during long calls, gaming sessions, or when capturing photos and videos on the move.

USB-C or Lightning?

The iPhone 16 uses USB-C, while the 14 Pro uses Lightning. The 16’s USB-C port supports USB 2 data transfer up to 480 Mb/s, so having a USB-C connector does not mean it offers faster-than-USB-2 wired data transfers. If your cables and accessories are already USB-C, the 16 may fit your setup more easily; moving from a 14 Pro can mean replacing a cable or using an adapter.

Battery estimates and used-phone condition

Apple rates the 14 Pro for up to 23 hours of video playback and up to 20 hours of streamed video. Its iPhone 16 figures are up to 22 hours and up to 18 hours, respectively. These are Apple’s published estimates, not head-to-head measurements of everyday use. They also do not predict how long a used 14 Pro will last: its battery health and wear can materially affect runtime.

iOS 26 support and Apple Intelligence

Apple lists both phones as compatible with iOS 26. That does not make their feature sets identical. Apple’s Apple Intelligence compatibility information lists iPhone 16 models and iPhone 15 Pro models, but not iPhone 14 Pro. Apple Intelligence availability is subject to software, language and region requirements. Check Apple’s current requirements for your location and preferred language.

What is the price difference?

There is no dependable single price difference to quote without comparing specific listings. Apple’s US buy-iPhone page listed the iPhone 16 from $799 when accessed on October 4, 2026. A September 2026 Tom’s Guide buying guide reported a $699 price snapshot for the iPhone 16; that is a dated third-party figure, not Apple’s current store price. Apple’s current US buy page does not list the iPhone 14 Pro, and resale prices vary by unit and seller.

For the current Apple US listing, see Apple’s Buy iPhone page. The third-party snapshot is in Tom’s Guide’s 2026 iPhone buying guide. Neither figure establishes the price of a comparable 14 Pro. Before treating one phone as cheaper, compare the actual asking prices for the same storage capacity and account for the 14 Pro’s condition, battery state, carrier or unlock status, warranty and return terms.

Which one should you buy?

Choose the iPhone 14 Pro if

  • You want an adaptive 120Hz display or Always-On.
  • A dedicated 3x telephoto lens or ProRAW matters to your photography.
  • You find a verified example in good condition at a meaningful discount after checking its battery health, warranty and return policy.

Choose the iPhone 16 if

  • You want USB-C and newer hardware.
  • Apple Intelligence eligibility, Camera Control or macro photography matters to you.
  • You prefer buying from a currently listed product line and can confirm the price, storage and seller for the exact unit.

For either phone, compare the real listings rather than assuming the newer model costs a fixed amount more. A low resale price for a 14 Pro is only a good deal if the condition, battery and seller protections suit you.
