The iPhone 17e is the stronger choice for most buyers choosing between these models: it has a newer A19 chip, twice the base storage, USB-C, MagSafe and a 48MP main camera system. The iPhone 13 still offers a dedicated Ultra Wide rear camera and may cost less, but its current price depends on the specific seller and condition. Both have a 6.1-inch OLED display with the same listed resolution.

How much does the iPhone 17e cost compared with iPhone 13?
Apple announced a U.S. launch price of $599 for the iPhone 17e on March 2, 2026. When Apple’s U.S. store page was accessed on October 7, 2026, it listed the phone from $699. Those are different dated price references, not a guaranteed current price: check the live listing before buying.
A current iPhone 13 price was not established, so a reliable present-day dollar difference cannot be calculated. Many iPhone 13 offers may be used or refurbished, while the 17e listing may be for a new device. Compare the same storage capacity where possible and check condition, seller, carrier lock, warranty and return terms before judging which costs less.
#1 Best Overall
- 6.1‑inch (diagonal) all‑screen OLED display
Apple’s March 2026 announcement advertised maximum U.S. iPhone 13 trade-in credits of up to $195 through Apple Trade In or up to $599 through a carrier offer toward an iPhone 17e. These are not guaranteed valuations or necessarily current offers. Confirm eligibility, device condition, carrier requirements and current terms directly with the provider.
What changes in everyday use?
Storage and display
The 17e starts at 256GB, twice the 13’s 128GB base capacity. That can matter if you keep a large photo library, download video or install many apps. The iPhone 13 was also sold in 256GB and 512GB versions, so compare like capacities when evaluating a listing.

Screen size and core resolution are alike: both are 6.1-inch OLED displays at 2532 × 1170 and 460 pixels per inch. Apple lists up to 800 nits typical maximum brightness and 1,200 nits HDR peak brightness for both. The 17e also lists an anti-reflective coating. On the published specifications, the 17e does not represent a change in screen size or pixel density.
Chip and camera
The A19 in the 17e is three chip generations newer by model name than the A15 Bionic in the iPhone 13. That establishes a newer processor generation, but the available specifications do not establish a quantified speed difference; do not treat the generation labels as a benchmark.

The camera systems serve different needs. The iPhone 13 has separate 12MP Main and Ultra Wide rear cameras, useful when you want a wider field of view. The 17e has a single 48MP Fusion rear camera system that offers optical-quality 2x telephoto framing. It is not a dual-camera design and does not have a separate Ultra Wide camera. Choose based on whether you value the 17e’s higher-resolution main camera and 2x framing or the 13’s dedicated Ultra Wide option.
Charging, cables and connectivity
The iPhone 13 uses Lightning; the 17e switches to USB-C wired charging. If you already own Lightning cables and accessories, account for replacing or adapting them. Apple says the 17e supports MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging up to 15W. The iPhone 13 also supports MagSafe up to 15W, so MagSafe itself is not exclusive to the newer model. Cases and accessories should be explicitly compatible with the phone you buy rather than assumed to fit both.
Rank #4
- 6.1‑inch (diagonal) all‑screen OLED display
Apple’s 17e announcement includes satellite features and Apple Intelligence support, but availability can depend on region, language, carrier and software version. Check Apple’s current eligibility details for your location and intended use instead of assuming every feature works everywhere.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

If your iPhone 13 is working well, upgrade based on the actual cost after any eligible trade-in—not on the model names alone. The 17e is a more compelling move if you need more base storage, want USB-C, prefer its camera approach, or need features tied to the newer hardware. If you rely on a dedicated Ultra Wide camera or your 13 meets your needs, keeping it may be the better value.
