Apple does not specify one storage amount or a guaranteed update duration for every iPhone. Its guidance says an iOS update leaves data and settings unchanged, but recommends backing up first.
Which iPhone models can install iOS 27?
Apple’s iOS 27 compatibility guidance lists iPhone 11, 11 Pro, and 11 Pro Max; iPhone 12 through 18 generations and their named mini, Plus, Pro, Max, e, and Air variants; and iPhone SE (2nd generation and later). Model names matter, so check Apple’s iOS 27 compatibility list rather than relying on a broad generation range.

You can also check directly on the iPhone at Settings > General > Software Update. Apple says the screen presents updates compatible with that device. Features and apps can still vary by model, region, language, and carrier.
How much storage do I need for iOS 27?
Apple does not give a universal free-space figure for iOS 27 in its reviewed guidance. The amount required can depend on the update and the device, so use the prompt on your iPhone instead of a generic gigabyte estimate. Check current usage at Settings > General > iPhone Storage.

If the phone asks you to free space, Apple says it may temporarily remove apps to complete an update and reinstall them afterward. You can also enable Offload Unused Apps or delete apps and content manually. Apple notes that some app data that can be downloaded again may be removed without affecting personal data. How long does the iOS 27 update take?
There is no fixed time that applies to every iPhone. Apple says download time depends on the update’s size and internet speed; installation time depends on the update size and how much data is on the device. A slow progress bar by itself does not mean installation has failed.

For a wireless update, use Wi-Fi, avoid other simultaneous downloads if possible, and keep the iPhone connected to power. Apple’s troubleshooting guide explains the factors that affect download and installation time but does not promise a duration.

Will my apps work with iOS 27?
Apple’s iPhone compatibility list establishes which iPhone models support iOS 27; it does not guarantee the behavior of every third-party app. Apple specifically cautions that apps and features may vary by device, region, language, and carrier.

Before upgrading, check with the publisher of any essential banking, work, travel, authentication, or health app for its current iOS 27 support information. Compatibility of the iPhone itself is not the same as an app-by-app assurance.
Will updating to iOS 27 delete my data?
Apple’s iPhone User Guide says, “When you update to the latest version of iOS, your data and settings remain unchanged.” Apple nevertheless recommends setting up automatic backup or making a manual backup before updating. Its deployment documentation also explains that the user data volume is not mounted during a software update or upgrade, a safeguard intended to protect data privacy and integrity.

Back up to iCloud or a computer before starting. This preserves a recovery option if something goes wrong; Apple’s statement about what an update is designed to do is not a substitute for a current backup. See Apple’s iPhone update guide and Apple Platform Deployment guidance.
What to do before installing iOS 27
- Confirm the model: Open Settings > General > About and compare the iPhone with Apple’s iOS 27 download and compatibility guidance.
- Back up: Use iCloud or a computer before installing.
- Check storage: Open Settings > General > iPhone Storage. If the update requests space, use the displayed requirement and remove or offload content as needed.
- Prepare for a wireless update: Connect to Wi-Fi and power.
- Start the update: Open Settings > General > Software Update, review the version and details shown, then follow the on-screen instructions. You can also install through Finder on current Macs or iTunes on older Macs or Windows.
Apple also describes automatic download and overnight installation. When automatic installation is enabled, the iPhone downloads and installs overnight while charging and connected to Wi-Fi; Apple says it notifies the user before installation.
