But Apple says iPhone Duo will arrive running iOS 27.1, so the beta’s redesigned controls are not confirmed launch features for the phone.
What changed in Apple Books in iOS 27.2 beta 3?
9to5Mac reports that the beta reshapes several controls in the Apple Books reading view. The changes concern navigation and access to reading tools:

- Reading progress bars: Readers can use bars to track their location in a book.
- Redesigned menu: The lower-right menu now uses a three-dot icon and a refreshed Liquid Glass appearance.
- Separate bookmark button: Bookmarking moves out of the menu to a standalone button in the upper-right corner.
- Close control: The “X” moves to the upper-left corner.
- Back control: The back button moves to the lower-left and is larger than before.
These details describe what 9to5Mac observed in beta 3, not a final iOS release note. The reporter responded positively to the changes, but that is an individual impression rather than a measured usability result.

Will iPhone Duo launch with the new Apple Books design?
That has not been confirmed. Apple Developer said on September 16, 2026, that iOS 27.2 beta versions were available, while also stating that iPhone Duo would be available October 23 and “will run iOS 27.1.” The Books changes are reported in a later-version beta; the available announcements do not say they will be on iPhone Duo at launch.

Apple announced iPhone Duo on September 9, 2026. The company says the device has a 7.6-inch inner display and a 5.4-inch outer display, with preorders beginning October 16 and availability beginning October 23. Those screen sizes provide context for reading on the device, but do not establish a Books-specific optimization.
What does the iPhone Duo Folio add for reading?
Apple also announced an iPhone Duo Folio with an integrated kickstand that supports adjustable angles for reading, viewing content, or FaceTime. Apple says it will be available to order October 16 for US$129. It is an optional accessory; the announcement does not say it is needed to use Apple Books, and the kickstand has not been independently tested here.

What to watch for as iOS 27.2 develops
Because the reported changes are from a beta, the final interface may differ. The key distinction for prospective iPhone Duo owners is the software version: Apple identifies iOS 27.1 as the phone’s launch software, while the Apple Books redesign has been seen in iOS 27.2 beta 3. A later confirmation would be needed to establish when, or whether, those controls reach the device.
