Intel N250 vs. N150: Which Processor Is Better for a Mini PC?

The N250 leads on listed turbo frequency and integrated-graphics units, while the N150 shares its core count, cache, base power and memory ceiling. Compare the complete mini PCs before paying more.

Intel’s N250 is the stronger chip on paper: it has a higher maximum turbo frequency and more integrated-graphics execution units than the N150. The two otherwise share key listed specifications, including four cores and four threads, 6 MB of cache, 6 W processor base power and a 16 GB maximum memory capacity. That specification edge does not establish how much faster one mini PC will feel. If the systems are otherwise comparable and the N250 model costs only a little more, it is a sensible tie-breaker; if the N150 system is substantially cheaper or better equipped, it may be the better buy.

Intel N250 vs. N150 specifications

Intel’s product pages list the following specifications. The figures describe the processors, not necessarily the configuration or behavior of any particular mini PC.

What the specification differences mean

N250 has the higher listed CPU clock

The N250’s maximum turbo frequency is 3.8 GHz, compared with 3.6 GHz for the N150. This is a peak clock specification, not a measurement of sustained application speed. It does not support a reliable percentage claim about how much faster an N250 mini PC will be.

N250 has more listed graphics units

Intel lists 32 integrated-graphics execution units for the N250 and 24 for the N150, along with higher maximum dynamic graphics frequency for the N250. That gives the N250 the paper advantage in integrated graphics specifications, but it does not by itself predict performance in a particular game, graphics application or video workload.

The core platform figures are otherwise closely matched

Both processors have four cores and four threads, 6 MB cache, 6 W processor base power, a 16 GB maximum memory size and one maximum memory channel. The shared base-power figure is not a promise that two complete mini PCs will draw the same electricity: system power depends on the whole computer and what it is doing.

Which processor should you choose?

Choose N250 when the complete systems are close in price and configuration

If RAM, storage, ports, cooling, warranty and other specifications are comparable, the N250 is the reasonable choice when its price premium is modest. Its higher listed CPU turbo and graphics specifications give it the edge on paper.

Choose N150 when it makes for a better-value computer

For everyday light computing, an N150 mini PC may be the better purchase if it costs meaningfully less or comes with more useful memory, storage or connectivity. That is a buying judgment based on the listed specifications, not a benchmark result.

Compare the mini PCs, not just the processor names

Check the actual model’s configuration before deciding. In particular, compare:

  • Installed RAM and whether it can be upgraded; Intel’s 16 GB figure is a processor-listed maximum, not a guarantee of how much a mini PC includes.
  • SSD capacity and type.
  • Cooling and noise, which can affect the experience under sustained workloads.
  • Physical ports and wireless features.
  • Warranty, operating system and total price.
  • Display outputs: Intel lists support for up to three displays and 4K at 60 Hz, but the mini PC’s ports and implementation determine what you can actually connect.

ASUS’s NUC 14 Essential brochure lists both N150 and N250 processor options in that product family. That does not confirm the availability, exact configuration or price of a particular model in your region. View the ASUS NUC 14 Essential brochure.

What Intel’s specifications cannot tell you

The official specifications establish that the N250 has higher listed peak CPU and graphics figures, but they do not quantify a controlled, real-world performance difference between the two processors. They also do not establish sustained performance in a particular mini PC, which depends in part on that system’s power settings and cooling. Intel cautions that processor numbers are not performance measures and says performance varies by use, configuration and other factors. For a system-specific decision, consult the mini PC maker’s specifications.
