For a mainstream gaming PC, choose the Intel Arc B580. It is the less expensive, gaming-focused card, with 12GB of memory and an official recommended customer price of $249. Choose the Intel Arc Pro B70 if your work actually benefits from 32GB of VRAM, ECC memory support, workstation software certification, or the B70’s professional and multi-GPU positioning. Intel’s suggested starting price for an Intel-branded B70 is $949.

Those recommendations are not a simple faster-versus-slower ranking. The B580 and B70 are aimed at different buyers. Their specifications can help identify which workloads each card is designed to serve, but the figures here are not independent gaming or application benchmark results. Check current street prices and availability before buying; retail prices and add-in-board configurations can differ from Intel’s official price anchors.

The specifications above are the values Intel publishes for the two products. Xe core counts, memory bandwidth, and AI throughput can describe hardware capabilities, but they do not establish how many frames per second a game will deliver or how quickly a particular application will finish a task. No independent benchmark figures are available here, so treat the table as a product comparison rather than a measured performance ranking.

Which card should you buy?

Choose the B580 for a value-focused gaming PC

The B580 is the natural starting point for a new mainstream gaming build, especially if 1440p gaming is the priority. Intel describes it as “Built for 1440p gaming,” and lists 12GB of GDDR6, 456GB/s of memory bandwidth, 20 Xe cores, and 190W total board power. Its official $249 recommended customer price is also much lower than the B70’s suggested starting price. The B580’s position is clear: it is the consumer Arc option in this comparison, not a workstation card whose professional features you must pay for whether you use them or not.

That does not guarantee a particular game’s frame rate, settings, or suitability for every 1440p system. Those outcomes depend on the game, resolution, graphics settings, the rest of the PC, and the card’s specific configuration. Intel’s gaming positioning is useful for identifying the intended market, but it is not a substitute for testing the games you play. Check current independent results for those titles and the exact card model you are considering before treating any performance expectation as settled.

Choose the B70 when its professional capabilities solve a real problem

The B70 makes sense when a workstation workload needs more graphics memory than a 12GB card provides, or when features such as ECC support and certified workstation software matter to the way you work. Intel lists 32GB of GDDR6, ECC support, 608GB/s memory bandwidth, 32 Xe cores, and PCIe 5.0 x16. Intel’s workstation product information describes the Arc Pro B-Series as intended for AI, rendering, design, and content creation, and notes Linux driver support, certified software, and multi-GPU scaling.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Those are reasons to investigate the B70 for a specific workflow, not proof that every professional application will be faster on it. Confirm that the application and version you use support the card and driver path you plan to install, and determine whether the software’s certification or support requirements name the exact hardware. Likewise, “multi-GPU scaling” is a product capability Intel highlights; it does not promise that every workload can use multiple cards efficiently or scale linearly.

Do not buy the B70 just because its specification numbers are larger

The B70 has more Xe cores, XMX engines, memory bandwidth, and VRAM than the B580. Those differences make it a more capable specification package for certain professional and memory-intensive use cases, but they do not turn the two cards into direct substitutes at different price points. A gaming buyer may get little value from ECC support or workstation certification, while a creator or AI user whose job is constrained by available VRAM may find the B580’s lower price irrelevant if 12GB is insufficient.

The useful question is not “Which one has the bigger number?” It is “Which feature prevents a limitation in the work I actually do?” If you cannot name a workload that needs the B70’s memory capacity or professional positioning, the B580 is the more sensible fit for a mainstream desktop.

Is the 32GB B70 worth it for local AI?

It can be worth considering when a local AI workflow needs more GPU memory than the B580’s 12GB provides. The B70 offers 32GB of GDDR6 and 608GB/s of memory bandwidth, compared with the B580’s 12GB and 456GB/s. Intel also lists 367 INT8 TOPS for the B70 and 233 INT8 TOPS for the B580. Intel describes the Pro B-Series as supporting AI workloads and says its cards offer up to 32GB for larger AI models.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

VRAM capacity matters because an AI workload must fit its model and working data into the memory available to it, or use a different approach such as moving some work elsewhere. More capacity can make a larger workload possible or reduce the need to compromise, but it does not establish which exact model, context length, batch size, software stack, or generation speed a card will handle. Those depend on the model, precision, application, driver and software support, and the rest of the system. The supplied specifications do not map a particular model size to either card, so do not interpret “32GB” as a guarantee that a named model will run well.

INT8 TOPS is an AI-throughput specification, not a universal speed score for local AI. A workload may use different numerical formats, may be limited by memory capacity or bandwidth, or may not make effective use of the relevant hardware. Intel’s 367 TOPS and 233 TOPS figures are vendor-listed specifications, not independent measurements of an AI application. Look for results using your intended framework, model, precision, and task before estimating real-world speed.

When the B580 may be enough for AI-enabled desktop use

Intel includes AI-enabled desktop use among the B580’s intended uses. Its 12GB of GDDR6 and 233 INT8 TOPS may suit a user whose chosen local workload fits that capacity and is supported by the software they plan to run. A buyer who only wants to experiment with supported AI tools does not automatically need a workstation GPU; first check the tool’s documented memory needs and Intel GPU support, then compare those requirements with the B580.

When the B70’s extra memory is more compelling

The B70 is easier to justify when you already know that 12GB is a bottleneck, need a larger graphics-memory pool for an AI or rendering task, or have a professional workflow that benefits from ECC and workstation support. Its 32GB capacity is about 2.7 times the B580’s 12GB on a simple capacity comparison, but that ratio is not a performance multiplier. It tells you how much graphics memory is specified, not how many times faster a task will run.

How to compare the memory and compute specifications

VRAM capacity is about fitting the workload

VRAM is the GPU’s graphics memory. The B580 has 12GB; the B70 has 32GB and supports ECC memory. Capacity is particularly relevant when an application’s models, scenes, assets, or other working data need to reside in GPU memory. If the workload fits comfortably in 12GB, the B70’s additional capacity may not improve the result enough to justify its much higher price. If it does not fit, the extra capacity may be the deciding factor, depending on the software and task.

ECC is a workstation-oriented feature that Intel lists as supported on the B70. Its relevance depends on the user’s reliability requirements and application environment. It is not a gaming performance feature, and the B580 specification information here does not list ECC support. Do not infer from that omission any broader claim about every error-handling feature in a complete system.

Bandwidth and TOPS describe different things

Memory bandwidth is the rate at which data can be transferred between GPU memory and the processor. Intel lists 608GB/s for the B70 and 456GB/s for the B580. The higher figure gives the B70 more specified bandwidth, but bandwidth alone cannot predict application speed: the task must be affected by memory movement, and the rest of the GPU and software matter too.

INT8 TOPS refers to theoretical throughput for integer operations at 8-bit precision. Intel lists 367 INT8 TOPS for the B70 and 233 for the B580. It is not a general-purpose score for graphics, games, rendering, or every AI model. Xe core count, XMX engine count, bandwidth, and TOPS are related aspects of a GPU specification, but none alone gives a dependable answer to “How fast will my program run?”

Gaming and content creation: what the comparison can and cannot tell you

For gaming, the B580 has the clearer fit: Intel’s desktop Arc page calls it “Built for 1440p gaming.” The B70 is positioned for professional work rather than as a gaming-first product. The available specifications show that the B70 has more Xe cores and RT units, but there are no independent game benchmarks here to establish a frame-rate advantage, image-quality outcome, or price-to-performance result. Do not use core counts or TOPS as a replacement for game-specific testing.

For consumer content creation, both cards may be relevant in different ways. Intel lists consumer content creation among B580 use cases and describes the Pro B-Series for content creation, rendering, and design. If your application is a consumer tool and your projects fit the B580’s memory capacity, the B580 may be the more economical route. If you rely on certified workstation software, have projects that exceed available memory, or need a professional driver and support path, investigate the B70 and verify certification for your exact application.

Certification is application-specific. A general statement that a product family has certified software does not mean every software package, version, operating system, or workflow is certified. Confirm the exact support status relevant to your work rather than assuming that “workstation” guarantees certification for every professional application.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Support on Ko-Fi

Power, PCIe, and system planning

Intel lists 230W total board power for the B70 and 190W for the B580. That is a 40W difference in the published board-power figures, not a complete estimate of whole-system consumption or a universal power-supply recommendation. The right system power supply also depends on the processor, other components, the exact add-in-board card, and the manufacturer’s requirements. Check the power and physical installation requirements for the specific card you buy.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The B70 uses PCIe 5.0 x16; the B580 uses PCIe 4.0 x8. Those labels describe the interface generation and lane width listed for each GPU. They are relevant when checking motherboard compatibility and planning a workstation, but the interface specification alone does not establish a measurable gaming difference. Verify that your motherboard has an appropriate available slot and consult the card and motherboard documentation for compatibility. Do not assume that the B70’s x16 connection makes it a better gaming purchase, or that the B580’s x8 connection disqualifies it from a normal desktop build.

Intel’s workstation information also lists Linux driver support and multi-GPU scaling for the Pro B-Series. These points may matter when building a Linux workstation or a system with multiple GPUs. They do not establish support for every Linux distribution, application, or multi-GPU workload. Check the driver and software requirements for the exact environment you plan to run.

Price and value: compare what you will actually pay

Intel’s official price anchors are far apart: $249 recommended customer price for the B580 and a $949 suggested starting price for Intel-branded B70 cards. Intel announced the B70 price and availability on March 25, 2026, and said add-in-board pricing varies by configuration. The B580’s $249 figure is Intel’s recommended customer price, while Intel’s launch announcement said cards would be available from $249 when they launched on December 13, 2024. Neither figure guarantees the current price, stock, or configuration at a particular retailer.

At the official anchors, the B70 costs about 3.8 times the B580’s price while offering about 2.7 times its VRAM capacity. That comparison is only a way to frame the price gap against memory capacity; it does not measure value or performance, because the B70 also differs in bandwidth, compute specifications, ECC support, PCIe interface, and workstation positioning. For a gaming PC, the question is whether any B70-specific feature is worth the additional system budget. For professional work, compare the card cost with the value of fitting a workload, meeting software requirements, or avoiding a memory limitation.

Street prices, availability, and add-in-board cooler and clock configurations can change. Compare the exact B70 or B580 model in stock in your region, not only an official starting or recommended price. A higher-priced board partner configuration is not automatically a faster or better fit for your workload; check its published specifications and warranty, and compare like with like.

A practical decision checklist

  1. Write down your primary workload. If it is mainstream 1440p gaming, start with the B580. If it is AI inference, rendering, design, or certified workstation software, evaluate whether the B70’s professional features address a specific requirement.
  2. Check the application’s GPU-memory needs. Compare those requirements with 12GB on the B580 and 32GB on the B70. Do not select a card based on a model-size or project-size guess; consult the software’s documentation for the task you intend to run.
  3. Verify software and driver support. For professional software, check certification for the exact application and version. For Linux or AI tools, verify support for the operating system, driver, framework, and GPU you plan to use.
  4. Decide whether ECC or multi-GPU support matters. If your workflow or organization requires ECC or a professional multi-GPU setup, investigate the B70’s supported capabilities and your software’s requirements. If not, these features may not justify the extra expense.
  5. Check the system before ordering. Confirm motherboard slot compatibility, power and physical requirements for the exact card, and any operating-system or driver prerequisites. Use the add-in-board manufacturer’s specifications for its particular model.
  6. Compare current prices in your market. Treat $249 and $949 as Intel’s official price anchors, not promises of current retail pricing. Factor in actual availability, configuration, and the cost of the rest of the build.
  7. Look for task-specific independent benchmarks. For games, use results for the titles and settings you care about. For AI and professional applications, seek results using the same software, model or project, and relevant precision. Intel’s specification figures do not replace such testing.

Bottom line for B70 versus B580

The Arc B580 is the straightforward pick for a value-conscious gaming desktop: it is the mainstream 1440p-oriented card in this comparison, with 12GB of GDDR6 and a $249 recommended customer price from Intel. The Arc Pro B70 is the specialist choice: consider its 32GB of VRAM, ECC support, greater listed memory bandwidth, professional software positioning, and multi-GPU capabilities when a real workload or support requirement calls for them. If you cannot identify why your work needs those features, do not pay the B70’s $949 suggested starting price simply because its specification sheet is larger.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
