If your TV does not offer the app, a compatible Fire TV or Apple TV device is an alternative. In every case, you need an Xfinity ID and an internet connection, and the programs you can watch depend on your Xfinity service and location.
Before you install, check that your TV is supported
Xfinity’s smart-TV activation guidance covers compatible LG and Samsung TVs, and its navigation guidance also covers Xumo Smart TVs. Support varies by model, so check Xfinity’s current activation instructions for your television rather than assuming the app is available on every smart TV.

Have your Xfinity ID and password ready and connect the TV to the internet. LG and Samsung TVs also need the relevant manufacturer account created and linked to the television before you can download apps. Menu names and layouts can vary by TV model and software version.
Download and activate Xfinity Stream on an LG or Samsung TV
- On the TV, sign in to the appropriate LG or Samsung account and confirm that the TV is online.
- Open the television’s app store and search for Xfinity Stream.
- Select the app, then choose Download or Install, depending on the TV’s displayed wording.
- Open Xfinity Stream and follow the activation instructions shown on the screen. If the TV displays an activation code, use a phone, tablet or computer to visit xfinity.com/authorize and follow the prompts.
- Sign in with your Xfinity ID and password if prompted, then follow any remaining on-screen steps.
Xfinity’s activation page has the current instructions for LG, Samsung and Xumo TVs. Follow the prompts displayed by your TV; the exact flow can differ.

Set up Xfinity Stream on a Xumo TV
Xfinity Stream is preinstalled on Xumo Smart TVs, so you do not need to download it from an app store. During TV setup, link the app to your Xfinity ID as prompted. Xfinity TV service is required to watch Xfinity Stream on Xumo; Xfinity Internet by itself does not qualify. See Xfinity’s Xumo and smart-TV navigation guidance for details.
If the app is missing from your TV
A missing app may mean your TV model is not supported for direct installation. You can use a compatible streaming device instead, but check Xfinity’s current requirements for the exact device before choosing one.

Amazon Fire TV
- Link an Amazon account to the Fire TV.
- Open the Amazon Appstore, search for Xfinity Stream and install it.
- Open the app, select Sign in and note the six-digit activation code displayed.
- On a separate phone, tablet or computer, go to xfinity.com/authorize, enter the code and follow the prompts.
Xfinity documents the app for most Amazon Fire TV devices. Check its Fire TV requirements and instructions for your specific model. Xfinity says you can use the app on a partner Fire TV without renting an Xfinity TV Box.
Apple TV
Xfinity says its app works on Apple TV devices that support tvOS 18 or later. Examples it lists include Apple TV 4K (2021), Apple TV 4K (2017) and Apple TV HD (2015); that list is not exhaustive, and compatibility may change. Sign in to an Apple account on the device, download Xfinity Stream from the App Store, then follow the app’s code-based activation prompts using a second device. AirPlay from an iPhone or iPad
If your TV or another device supports AirPlay, you can cast from the Xfinity Stream app on an iPhone or iPad. This plays the app’s content on the receiver; it does not install Xfinity Stream on the TV. Xfinity’s AirPlay guidance lists app version 7.8.0 or later and iOS 17.0, and notes that local-network permission may be needed for device discovery. Follow its AirPlay instructions to connect a compatible receiver.

Installing the app does not unlock every channel or program. Live TV and Xfinity On Demand require Xfinity TV service, and available programming depends on your subscription and channel lineup. Xfinity says some customers without Xfinity TV may be able to access select content; the details vary by service and device. For Fire TV, Xfinity says the full channel lineup and full On Demand library require an in-home Xfinity Internet connection. Away from home, some programming is identified as “TV Go”; recorded programs can be played away from home over Wi-Fi or a mobile network, and cellular data charges may apply. Pay-per-view events are not available in the Fire TV app. Xfinity also notes that partner devices do not include every X1 feature.
Fire TV stream limits depend on the Xfinity service: X1 customers can have up to five concurrent streams, with no more than three outside the in-home Wi-Fi network; Xfinity Instant TV allows two concurrent streams; Xfinity On Campus allows one. Choose the setup that fits your television
- Compatible LG or Samsung TV: install from the TV’s app store and complete the on-screen activation.
- Xumo TV: open the preinstalled app and link your Xfinity ID during setup; Xfinity TV service is required.
- TV without the app: use a supported Fire TV or Apple TV device, after checking Xfinity’s current model and software requirements.
- Compatible AirPlay receiver: cast from an iPhone or iPad if you do not need the app installed directly on the television.
