Recommended Free Tools
To play Calamity in Terraria, install tModLoader, then download Calamity Mod through its Steam Workshop listing or tModLoader’s in-game Mod Browser. Enable the mod and its required Calamity Mod Music dependency in the Mods menu, then reload. You need a copy of Terraria; tModLoader is a separate, free Steam listing.
What you need before downloading
- Terraria: tModLoader requires ownership of the base game.
- tModLoader: Calamity’s official download page specifies tModLoader on Steam. The separate tModLoader listing is free and supports Windows, macOS, and Linux.
- A compatible mod listing: Calamity’s Workshop page is the best place to check what version is currently available. The Official Calamity Wiki’s main page and version history do not agree on the latest Calamity release, so do not rely on one fixed version number.
See the Calamity download page for the project’s official download direction and the tModLoader Steam listing for platform and ownership details.

Install and enable the mod
- Install Terraria and tModLoader through Steam. Launch tModLoader once so it can complete its initial setup.
- Download Calamity using either the Steam Workshop or the in-game Mod Browser.
- Download Calamity Mod Music as well. The Calamity Workshop listing identifies it as required.
- In tModLoader, open Workshop or the Mods menu, depending on the version and route you used, and open the mod list.
- Enable Calamity Mod and Calamity Mod Music, then choose the option to reload mods. Wait for tModLoader to finish reloading before starting a world.

Required music mod versus optional music expansion
Calamity Mod Music is the required companion listed by the Workshop item. It supplies music associated with Calamity’s content. Vanilla Calamity Music Mod is a separate, optional soundtrack expansion; it is not a substitute for the required dependency. The official download page describes the music options.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Check version compatibility
The retrieved Calamity Workshop listing reports compatibility with tModLoader 1.4.3 and 1.4.4. The Official Calamity Wiki’s main page lists version 2.2.3, while its version history lists 2.2.4 with an August 9, 2026 release date. Because those pages conflict, use the live Workshop listing and the version information shown in tModLoader rather than assuming a specific version is the newest or compatible for every setup.

Play Calamity with friends
Everyone joining a tModLoader multiplayer session needs tModLoader; vanilla Terraria players cannot join players using tModLoader. Your friends should install the same relevant mods and check that their versions match the host’s setup. The tModLoader Steam listing explains its multiplayer requirement.
