Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFor a clean, watermark-free copy of a Reel you made, keep the original video file and export it before uploading. Instagram’s in-app download for another creator’s Reel includes the creator’s account name as a watermark, and no verified native method here removes that attribution. On iPhone and Android, you can download a Reel when Instagram and its creator allow it, but that is not a clean-copy option.
Download a Reel on iPhone or Android
When a Reel is eligible for download, use Instagram’s own controls:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Open the Reel in the Instagram app.
- Tap Share.
- Tap Download.
- Wait for the in-app confirmation, then look in your phone’s gallery or Photos app.
Tecnoblog’s guide, published September 17, 2026, describes this mobile workflow and says the downloaded video carries the creator’s account name as a watermark. It also reports that licensed music may be missing from the file; do not assume the downloaded version will retain the Reel’s sound. Tecnoblog

Download availability depends on the account and creator settings described in Tecnoblog’s guide. It reports that private-account Reels are not downloadable through this feature, that creators can disable downloads for all their Reels or an individual Reel, and that public accounts belonging to users under 18 have downloads off by default. Instagram can change its controls, so a missing option may reflect eligibility or settings rather than a problem with your phone.

If you only need to find the Reel later
Tap Instagram’s Save control to bookmark a Reel in the app; find it later in your Saved collection. This does not download an MP4 to your phone. Tecnoblog reports that Instagram advises using Save when a Reel is unavailable for download. Tecnoblog
Get a clean copy of your own Reel
Use the original export from your camera roll or editing project rather than downloading the published Reel. Keep that source file before you upload, then use it when sharing your video elsewhere. Meta’s 2020 Reels announcement described uploading video from a device gallery and saving drafts before sharing, but it does not establish a current, universal way to export a published Reel without a watermark. What works on a computer
The available evidence does not establish a current official desktop procedure for downloading a clean Reel file. Instagram’s save or bookmark control can help you return to a Reel later, but it is not a local video download. If it is your content, use the original file on the computer or device where you edited it.

Downloading does not grant reuse rights
A saved or downloaded video is only a copy, not permission to repost, edit, or distribute someone else’s work. Meta’s copyright guidance recommends posting content you created or have permission to use; downloading or recording another person’s video does not by itself avoid copyright concerns. Ask the creator before reusing their video, and consider music rights separately. Meta’s copyright guidance for Instagram and Threads
