To use two apps side by side on a supported Samsung Galaxy, open Recent apps, tap the first app’s icon, choose Open in split screen view, then select a second supported app. Drag the divider to adjust the space each app gets. Exact labels and availability vary by model, One UI version, screen form factor, and app support.
How to open two apps in split screen
- Open the first app.
- Open Recent apps.
- Tap the first app’s icon above its preview, then choose Open in split screen view.
- Choose a second supported app from the available apps.
- Drag the divider between the two windows to resize them.
Samsung documents this sequence for the Galaxy Z Flip8; labels and steps may differ on other Galaxy devices. If the second app is not offered, it may not support split screen on your device. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip8 instructions describe both split screen and the separate Pop-up view option.

Use the Taskbar to arrange or save apps
On a supported Galaxy tablet or Z Fold phone with the Taskbar visible, open an app and drag another app from the Taskbar to the desired screen area. Samsung’s instructions describe placing one app on the left and another on the right, then using the center control to save the combination as an App Pair on the Taskbar.

App Pairs are useful when you regularly open the same two apps together. The Taskbar workflow and saved-pair options are device-dependent; consult Samsung’s Taskbar instructions for supported devices and controls.

Open apps from the Edge panel
- Check whether Edge panels are available on your device. On models that use the setting, go to Settings > Display > Edge panels and enable the feature.
- Swipe the Edge panel handle inward to open the panel.
- If a Multi window tray is available, select the apps you want to use together.
Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold7 guidance describes this tray-based method, but Edge panel availability and the exact gestures or labels depend on the device and software. Not seeing Edge panels does not mean split screen itself is unsupported; try Recent apps instead. See Samsung’s Edge panels information and its Galaxy Z Fold7 Multi window guidance.
What to check if split screen is missing or does not work
- The app may not be compatible. Some apps do not appear as split-screen choices or do not launch in a split window. Try another app and check your model’s support instructions. - Your model may not include every shortcut. Taskbar and Edge panel workflows are not universal. Check Recent apps and your device’s settings before assuming the feature is unavailable.
- Foldable placement can change by screen. Samsung’s Z TriFold instructions distinguish cover-screen placement from unfolded layouts. Do not assume that an arrangement or gesture for one Galaxy form factor applies to another. Samsung’s Galaxy Z TriFold guidance
- Pop-up view is not split screen. Pop-up view opens an app in a floating window; split screen divides the display between two app windows. Samsung lists them as separate Multi window options. Samsung Support
- Older gestures may not match current instructions. Samsung documented two-finger split-screen gestures and drag-and-drop shortcuts in its One UI 4.1.1 feature material. Treat those steps as version-specific rather than guaranteed on current devices. Samsung’s One UI 4.1.1 announcement
Does every Galaxy support three apps at once?
No universal three-app capability is established for Galaxy devices. Samsung’s 2021 One UI 3.1.1 announcement said Multi-Active Window could display up to three apps simultaneously on the foldable devices it listed.
