To copy contacts from a SIM card into a Samsung Galaxy phone, open Contacts and go to Menu > Manage contacts > Import or export contacts > Import. Select the SIM and contacts, tap Done, choose Phone as the destination, then tap Import and confirm if prompted. The exact menu names can vary by model, software version, provider, and market.
Import contacts from a SIM to your Samsung phone
- Open the Contacts app.
- Tap Menu, often shown as a three-line icon, then tap Manage contacts.
- Tap Import or export contacts, then choose Import.
- Select the SIM card that contains the contacts. Select individual contacts or tap All if that option appears, then tap Done.
- Choose Phone as the destination, tap Import, and confirm if asked.
- Return to the Contacts app and check that the imported contacts appear.
This process imports contacts into phone storage; it should not be treated as a guaranteed deletion from the SIM.

If the menu labels are different
Samsung documents different routes for different devices and software. If you do not see Import or export contacts, look in Manage contacts for Move contacts, or check the user manual for your specific model. Samsung’s Germany instructions include a Manage contacts > Move contacts example for Android 10, as well as other paths for Android Pie or earlier; the feature may not appear in Easy mode. Samsung cautions that screens and settings can vary by provider, software version, device model, and purchase location.
For its Hong Kong instructions, Samsung gives the direct SIM-to-Phone import sequence and notes that steps vary by operating system and device model. These official regional examples are useful guides, not a promise that every Galaxy phone or carrier uses identical labels. When SIM import is not the right transfer method
A SIM import is for contacts stored on that SIM and is a one-time copy into phone storage. It is not the same as moving a complete address book from another phone or keeping contacts synchronized between devices.
- Moving an address book from another phone: Samsung France recommends Smart Switch when transferring an entire address book during a phone change. See Samsung’s French guide to copying SIM contacts to phone memory.
- Keeping contacts backed up or synchronized: Samsung also describes Samsung account and Google contact synchronization. These account-based options are separate from a one-time SIM import. See Samsung’s US guide to managing contacts on Galaxy phones and tablets.
What to expect from SIM-stored contacts
SIM storage is limited, and Samsung France says a SIM can hold only a certain number of contacts; its guidance does not give a numeric capacity. Samsung also warns that exporting contacts to a SIM may preserve only a name and phone number, with other details lost or long names and numbers cut off. That warning concerns export to SIM; it does not establish that importing from SIM removes or truncates the source contact. See Samsung’s UK guidance on managing, saving, or copying contacts.
