Building an MVP gets a product to its first useful version. Shipping it reliably is a separate discipline: qualifying changes, releasing them safely, watching what happens in production, and learning from the result. A working prototype—or even a successful first launch—does not by itself establish a repeatable way to deliver software.
Why is shipping an MVP harder than building it?
While building an MVP, the main question is whether the product can do enough to be useful. Google Cloud’s Well-Architected Framework recommends starting new workloads with a minimal viable product and avoiding over-engineering. But reaching that milestone answers a different question from whether a team can make changes regularly and get fast feedback.

Once software is used in production, a change has to travel through more than code. Google Cloud describes change management in four phases: design, development, qualification, and rollout. Qualification and rollout are part of delivery, not optional cleanup after development.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThat distinction is the practical meaning of “shipping was a different skill.” The MVP is an initial product milestone; shipping is the capability to move changes through a dependable path and respond to what happens after release.

What does a repeatable shipping process include?
Design the change
Work out what the change is meant to do and how it should behave before implementation. This gives the team something specific to qualify and a basis for deciding whether the production result matches the intent.
Develop in small batches
Google Cloud identifies small batches as a DevOps capability associated with shorter lead times and faster feedback loops. Smaller changes can also make it easier to identify what changed when something goes wrong. They do not guarantee a failure-free release, but they reduce the amount of change that has to be understood at once.

- Intel Celeron N4120: 4 Cores & Threads, 1.1GHz Base Clock, Up to 2.6GHz Boost Clock, 4MB Cache, Intel UHD Graphics 600. The perfect combination of performance, power consumption, and value helps your device handle multitasking smoothly and reliably with four processing cores to divide up the work.
Qualify before release
Qualification is the point to check that a change is ready to roll out. Automated checks can help make this step repeatable, where they fit the product and its risks. A passing check is evidence about the cases it covers, not proof that every production condition has been tested.

Roll out in stages
Google Cloud describes staged rollout as a way to minimize negative customer impacts. A canary deployment exposes a change to only part of the environment for a limited time before wider release. This can limit the initial scope of a problem and give a team an opportunity to observe the change, but it cannot prevent every incident.

Monitor and learn
After rollout, production behavior is part of the feedback loop. Monitoring helps a team notice when a change needs attention; the response may be to continue rollout, intervene, or revise the software. Without observation and a response path, a release process ends at deployment rather than learning.
How can you tell whether shipping is improving?
DORA’s current guide tracks both delivery throughput and instability. These measures help a team see how its delivery system behaves; they are not universal targets, and a single number cannot establish that a team’s process caused a particular outcome.

| Measure | What it describes | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Change lead time | How long a change takes to move from version control to production. | Whether changes can reach users without an unnecessarily long wait. |
| Deployment frequency | How often production changes are deployed. | Frequency alone does not show whether releases are safe or useful. |
| Failed deployment recovery time | How long recovery takes when a deployment requires intervention. | Whether the team can restore service or otherwise address a problematic release. |
| Change fail rate | How often deployments require immediate intervention. | Delivery speed should be considered alongside release instability. |
| Deployment rework rate | How often unplanned deployments are made because of production incidents. | Whether incident-driven work is displacing planned changes. |
These measures are most useful together. Increasing deployment frequency is not automatically progress if failures or unplanned rework rise with it. Likewise, a team should interpret its measures in the context of its service rather than chasing a benchmark detached from the risks and needs of its users.

Treat the first release as the beginning of a delivery practice, not evidence that the practice already exists. A useful next step is to make the path from a proposed change to production explicit: design it, develop it in manageable batches, qualify it, roll it out with an appropriate scope, and observe the result.

- 【Expansive Display】The 14 Non-touch display offers clear, and anti-glare coating, perfect for both work and entertainment.
- Designed for mobility with a slim 0.71-inch profile and lightweight, making it easy to carry between home, office
- 【Versatile Connectivity】 connected with multiple ports including USB 3.0 Type-C, and a headphone/mic combo jack, with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for seamless wireless networking.
- One Year Microsoft 365
Then use production feedback to improve that path. If releases are hard to assess, strengthen qualification or monitoring. If a problem affects too much of the service at once, consider a more staged rollout. If changes spend too long waiting, examine where they stall rather than optimizing deployment frequency in isolation.
The personal lesson in the title is a useful one for any builder: making the product work is one achievement; building a repeatable way to deliver, monitor, and improve it is another. The exact turning point belongs to each team’s own experience, but the distinction is visible in the work required after the MVP is built.
