What the Mate 90 Pro Max camera offers
Huawei’s China-region product specifications list a 50 MP main camera with a variable f/1.4–f/4.0 aperture, optical image stabilization (OIS) and RYYB sensor design; a 40 MP f/2.2 ultra-wide camera; a 200 MP f/2.6 telephoto camera with OIS and tele-macro capability; and a third-generation red maple color camera. Settings to choose by scene
Everyday daylight
Begin in standard Photo mode, tap the main subject to focus, and keep the exposure natural. If you switch to Pro mode and it offers ISO control, Huawei’s general advice is to use a lower ISO in bright conditions to limit added image noise. This is general Huawei guidance, not a tested Mate 90 Pro Max setting.

Moving people, pets or sports
For a moving subject, use AF-C (continuous autofocus) if available, and choose a faster shutter speed to reduce motion blur. A faster shutter lets in less light, so the camera may need a higher ISO; aim for the lowest ISO that still permits a sharp frame. Portraits
Try Portrait mode, or use the telephoto camera when its perspective suits the framing. Huawei lists Portrait mode and an OIS-equipped telephoto camera, but the specification does not establish a particular focal length or guarantee a specific background-blur effect.

Close-ups
Try Super Macro or the telephoto camera’s tele-macro capability. Move slowly and check the subject’s focus on the screen as you adjust distance. The cited specification does not give a minimum focusing distance, so there is no confirmed distance to target.
Night scenes
Try the built-in Super Night feature if it is visible in the installed camera app, and hold the phone steady while the image is captured. Huawei’s product page lists Super Night, but the Night mode help page consulted here covers Mate 80 and Pura 90 families on HarmonyOS 6.0/6.1, not the Mate 90 Pro Max. Zoom and detail
Huawei lists camera focal lengths of 13 mm, 24 mm and 89 mm, approximately 4x optical coverage across those views, 8x optical-quality zoom and up to 100x digital zoom. Select a native camera view when detail matters. Treat extreme digital zoom as a way to frame a distant subject, not as a promise of fine detail; that is a practical caution, not a tested result.
Choose Pro controls for the light and subject
If Pro mode on your phone exposes these controls, use them as trade-offs rather than fixed presets. Huawei cautions that changing one setting can sometimes change others, so check the resulting exposure and focus on screen.

The metering descriptions and exposure-control principles are general Huawei Pro-mode guidance. The exact choices and labels on the Mate 90 Pro Max depend on what its installed camera software exposes. Huawei’s support article states: “Changing a specific setting will sometimes cause other settings to change as well. Adjust them according to your actual requirements.”

Confirm controls in the camera app
Huawei’s device specifications establish the camera hardware and listed modes; its Pro-mode support article is general guidance and says some controls are model-dependent. Treat controls such as ISO, shutter speed, AF-C and metering as options to verify on your own phone rather than assuming a particular menu path. The Night mode support instructions likewise do not list the Mate 90 Pro Max, so use the on-screen app options for its current Super Night workflow.
