Huawei has announced the Kirin 9050 Pro for the HUAWEI Mate XT 2 and published performance and efficiency figures against its own predecessor. Qualcomm publishes detailed Snapdragon 8 Elite specifications and generational comparisons against an earlier Snapdragon. Those figures use different baselines, and no matched, independently verified test establishes which chip is faster or more efficient in equivalent phones.
For buyers, the practical choice is therefore between actual devices sold in their market—not processor names in isolation. Phone design, cooling, battery size, software, network support and price all affect the experience.

| Design and components | Huawei says it is the first smartphone processor using its LogicFolding architecture, which vertically distributes selected logic using hybrid bonding. Huawei’s official announcement describes the design. | Qualcomm lists a custom Oryon CPU, Adreno GPU, Hexagon NPU, X80 5G modem-RF and FastConnect 7900 on its Snapdragon 8 Elite product page. |
| Performance figures | Huawei reports gains against its planar predecessor, including 42% higher GPU performance and an 18% CPU benchmark improvement. | Qualcomm reports gains against the prior Snapdragon generation, including up to 45% improved CPU performance and 40% improved GPU performance. |
| AI | Huawei reports peak NPU performance of up to 70 TOPS. | Qualcomm identifies a Hexagon NPU and on-device AI capabilities; the product page does not provide a directly comparable Kirin test. |
| Named device and availability | Announced for the HUAWEI Mate XT 2. Huawei said the phone would be available in China from September 12, 2026; the announcement does not establish availability elsewhere. | A platform used in OEM phones. The sources cited here do not identify a particular competing handset for this comparison. |
The table is a specification and claim comparison, not a benchmark result. In particular, the performance percentages cannot be compared as if they came from one test: Huawei and Qualcomm use different predecessor chips and measurement contexts.

Kirin 9050 Pro: Huawei’s figures versus its predecessor
Huawei says LogicFolding delivers 238 million transistors per square millimeter, compared with about 155 million in its planar predecessor—a reported increase of 55%. It also reports energy reductions at equal performance versus that predecessor: 66% for the NPU, 58% for the GPU and 41% for the CPU performance core. These are Huawei-reported figures, not independently established measurements.

- COMPATIBILITY:BGA Reballing Stencil Suitable for Kirin 8000/9000S series, HI6290 CPU, and various Suitable for Huawei models including Mate60 pro+ and nova12
- MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONS: Premium 0.2MM magnetic steel mesh construction for precise BGA IC maintenance and repair
- VERSATILE APPLICATION: Suitable for multiple chip types including CPU, RAM, power, charging, and WIFI IC components
- PRECISION DESIGN: Specifically engineered for motherboard series chip maintenance and electronic component repair tasks
- MODEL SUPPORT: Compatible with multiple chipsets including HI6421 V920, HI1105 V120, HI6555, SC8565, and HI6423 V220 series
Huawei also reports up to 70 TOPS for the NPU, 42% higher GPU performance and an 18% CPU benchmark gain compared with its predecessor. These numbers do not show how the Kirin performs against Snapdragon 8 Elite under the same workload or in comparable phones.
Snapdragon 8 Elite: Qualcomm’s figures versus its prior generation
Qualcomm lists an Oryon CPU with a maximum frequency of up to 4.47 GHz. Its product page notes that a 4.32 GHz version and a 7-core version may exist, so check the specification for the exact phone rather than assuming every device has the maximum configuration. Qualcomm claims up to 45% better CPU performance and 44% greater power efficiency, 40% better GPU performance and efficiency, and up to 27% overall SoC power savings against the prior generation. These are Qualcomm’s generational comparisons, not results against Kirin 9050 Pro.
TechRadar’s September 15, 2026 report says Huawei’s performance figures had not been independently verified or peer-reviewed at the time of publication. That qualification does not prove the figures false; it means they should be treated as manufacturer claims until comparable independent testing is available.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Which chip is better for gaming and sustained performance?
The available figures do not settle this matchup. Huawei’s reported GPU gain is against its own predecessor; Qualcomm’s GPU gain is against an earlier Snapdragon. Neither percentage tells you which chip sustains higher frame rates in the same game, at the same settings, after the phone heats up.
For a gaming purchase, look for tests of the exact handset that report sustained frame rates, thermal behavior and power draw over extended play. Cooling systems and phone thickness can change sustained performance even when two devices use the same chipset. Game compatibility and the software experience also matter as much as peak graphics capability.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What do the AI and battery figures tell you?
Huawei’s stated 70 TOPS is a peak NPU figure, not a measure of how quickly or well a specific AI app runs. TOPS alone does not establish which models are supported, how much processing happens on-device, or whether the relevant features are available in your region or language. Qualcomm describes Hexagon NPU and on-device AI capabilities, but the cited product information does not provide a directly comparable test against Kirin.
Likewise, component-level energy claims are not a direct prediction of phone battery life. Huawei’s reported reductions are at equal performance versus its planar predecessor; Qualcomm’s efficiency and power figures compare the Snapdragon 8 Elite with the prior Snapdragon generation. A phone’s battery capacity, display, modem use, cooling and software can materially affect endurance. Compare measured battery tests on the specific devices you are considering.

Qualcomm lists the X80 5G modem-RF and FastConnect 7900, along with supported wireless platform features. A platform specification does not guarantee that every phone maker enables every capability, and practical network compatibility depends on the device variant, carrier bands and country.
The Huawei announcement cited here does not give a full Kirin 9050 Pro modem specification. That is not evidence that the chip lacks a particular feature; it means a buyer should check the Mate XT 2’s exact regional model for 5G bands, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and carrier compatibility.
Software support is another device-level question: check the phone’s operating system, update commitments, app compatibility and access to the services you rely on in your region. A chipset name alone cannot answer those questions.
Which phone can you buy with Kirin 9050 Pro?
Huawei announced the Kirin 9050 Pro for the HUAWEI Mate XT 2. The company said the phone would be available in China from September 12, 2026. That announcement confirms a China availability date, not sales or support in other markets. The sources cited here do not establish a specific Snapdragon 8 Elite phone to compare with it, so check local handset listings and official regional specifications before making a purchase.
How should you choose between them?
- Start with phones actually sold where you live. Confirm the precise model and regional variant, not just the chipset family.
- Match the phone to your priorities. For gaming, compare sustained performance and heat; for battery life, use device-level endurance tests; for AI, verify the apps and features you will actually use.
- Check practical compatibility. Confirm carrier bands and wireless features, software and app support, warranty and service availability.
- Compare the complete purchase. Weigh local price, storage, battery, cameras and form factor against the handset’s tested performance.
Until equivalent-device testing is available, there is no sound basis to declare one chipset the benchmark winner. The more useful decision is which locally available phone delivers the features, support and tested performance you need.
