The HP DeskJet 2823e is a wireless inkjet all-in-one for printing, copying and scanning at home. HP recommends a monthly volume of 50–100 pages, making it a better fit for occasional documents and light household use than a busy home office. Its published speeds are modest, and the available specifications do not establish real-world print quality, reliability, cartridge yields or running costs.

Is the HP DeskJet 2823e good for home use?
It appears suited to a household that prints occasionally and wants scanning and copying in the same device. HP’s recommended range of 50–100 pages per month is the most useful guide to its intended workload. The separately listed 1,000-page maximum duty cycle should not be treated as a sustainable monthly target: HP explicitly distinguishes that ceiling from recommended ongoing use.

The combination of Wi-Fi and supported mobile-printing options is useful when several devices need to send a document to a shared printer. USB is available for a direct device connection. However, HP says the printer does not support multitasking, so do not expect to print, copy and scan simultaneously.

Speed and print quality: what the specifications do—and don’t—tell you
HP rates the DeskJet 2823e at up to 7.5 ppm black and 5.5 ppm color on A4 ISO measurements. Those are manufacturer specifications, not observed results from a hands-on test; actual job times may differ. The figures suggest a basic printer rather than a model to choose for high-volume or time-sensitive work.

HP also lists maximum resolutions of 1200 × 1200 rendered dpi for black and 4800 × 1200 optimized dpi for color, under its stated conditions. Resolution figures alone do not establish how sharp text looks, how photos reproduce, or how consistently the printer performs. No independent print-quality or reliability results are available here, so those should not be treated as tested strengths.
Ink, cartridge costs and Instant Ink
The 2823e uses a two-cartridge arrangement: one black cartridge and one tri-color cartridge. HP marks it as Instant Ink eligible, but eligibility is not enough to determine whether a subscription will save money. The retrieved specification excerpt does not identify cartridge part numbers, page yields or prices, so the cost per page and replacement expense cannot be established from these details.

Before buying, check the current HP listing for your country to confirm compatible cartridge identifiers and availability. If you are comparing printers, compare the cost and yield of the correct regional cartridges as well as the printer’s purchase price; the two-cartridge setup by itself does not reveal total ownership cost.
Compatibility and setup
HP’s Canadian compatibility listing names Windows 10 and 11, macOS 10.14 through 15, and Chrome OS. Compatibility can vary by market and may change, so check HP’s current local product listing before purchase. HP’s support page provides setup, user, HP+ user and reference guides, which are the appropriate sources for installation steps and model-specific instructions.

Who should consider the DeskJet 2823e?
- Consider it if your home needs print, copy and scan functions, wireless or phone-based printing, and a light monthly workload in HP’s recommended 50–100-page range.
- Look elsewhere if you regularly print much more than that, need simultaneous printing and scanning, or need verified evidence about photo quality, reliability or low running costs before choosing.
- Check before buying if your decision depends on a specific computer or mobile device, cartridge price, page yield or subscription economics; those details are not established by the specifications summarized here.
Verdict
The HP DeskJet 2823e is a straightforward, light-duty all-in-one on paper: it combines printing, copying and scanning with Wi-Fi, USB and several mobile-printing options. Its strongest case is convenience for occasional household jobs, not speed or demonstrated low ink costs. Treat the published performance figures as HP ratings rather than independent test results, and verify local compatibility and cartridge costs before committing.
