You can play eligible titles while your subscription is active and each title remains in the Game Pass library. Installing a game does not give you a permanent license: access ends when the subscription expires or is canceled, or when the game leaves the catalog. Plan features and availability vary by region, platform, and time.
How Xbox Game Pass access works
Choose a plan, sign in on a supported Xbox or Windows experience, and play eligible games included with that plan. A title can leave the catalog even if it is still installed on your device. Microsoft describes access as lasting until the subscription is canceled or expires, or the game leaves the library. Check the Xbox Game Pass page for the current catalog and plan details.

Library size alone does not determine which plan fits. Compare whether the games you want are currently included, the platforms you use, day-one release access, cloud streaming eligibility and limits, multiplayer and other benefits, and local pricing and renewal terms. Microsoft says game titles, counts, features, and availability vary over time, by region, plan, and platform.

Can you download Game Pass games?
Many eligible titles can be downloaded and installed on a supported console or PC. Microsoft Store digital downloads can be downloaded, installed, or reinstalled, but that installation does not change the Game Pass license: a downloaded subscription title remains subject to the subscription and catalog rules. Microsoft’s download instructions explain the general download process.
Can you stream Game Pass games instead?
Cloud gaming lets subscribers play supported games on supported devices without first downloading them. It does not apply to every title or device. Cloud availability depends on plan, region, device, and game; Microsoft’s plan page also says cloud playtime limits vary by plan and that PC Game Pass does not include cloud gaming. Check the current plan details and catalog for the game and device you intend to use. The page also identifies select games a subscriber owns as streamable, subject to support and availability.

Can you play downloaded Game Pass games offline?
A download and offline access are separate questions. The current Microsoft information cited here does not establish a single offline verification interval that applies across platforms, so do not rely on a particular number of offline days or assume every title will launch offline. Check the current Xbox instructions for your platform and game before planning to play without an internet connection.
What happens when you cancel or turn off renewal?
Turning off recurring billing stops a future renewal; it does not necessarily end your benefits immediately. Microsoft says benefits continue until the subscription expires when recurring billing is turned off. Check the end date and status shown in your account to confirm how long you retain access. Once the subscription expires, subscription access ends even for games that remain installed.

Turn off recurring billing in your Microsoft account
- Sign in to your Microsoft account and open subscription management.
- Find your Game Pass subscription and choose the option to turn off recurring billing or cancel, following the current prompts.
- Review the confirmation and displayed expiration date. If you subscribed through a third party, manage renewal through that seller.
Use an Xbox console
Microsoft also directs subscribers to manage or cancel through an Xbox console. Console labels and menus can change, so follow the current on-screen subscription-management prompts and verify the resulting account status and end date.
Complete cancellation before the next billing date to avoid the next charge. Microsoft’s US page describes a limited refund scenario for a recent recurring-billing charge: request it within 30 days, and it is available only once per Microsoft account per subscription product. Refund eligibility and terms may vary; consult Microsoft’s current cancellation and refund guidance rather than assuming a refund will apply.

How to check whether a specific game is included
- Open the current Xbox Game Pass catalog for your market.
- Search for the title and confirm it is available for your plan and platform; a title’s presence on one platform does not establish availability on another.
- Check whether you intend to download it or stream it, and confirm that your device and region support that option.
- Before subscribing or renewing, review the plan’s current benefits, limits, price, and renewal date in your account.
