Vasya Run’s movement is built around preserving and redirecting momentum. You approach an obstacle at speed, use a hand or foot contact to send part of that velocity upward or around it, and land ready to move again. The game is still unreleased, so this explains the parkour logic suggested by its official description and documented parkour technique—not confirmed controls or a final animation set.

What Vasya Run is—and what its movement promises

Vasya Run is listed on Steam as a coming-soon, single-player action/adventure game developed by vasya and published by Garden of Dreams. The store listing names Windows and macOS support but does not give a confirmed release date. Its premise follows Vasya, a courier and graffiti artist moving through a surveilled urban society, using parkour and stealth to cross the city and evade threats.

The official description says: “Conquer the realms and dimensions, seamlessly blending parkour and stealth in a third-person view amidst the urban sprawl.” That sentence establishes the intended relationship between traversal and hiding. Parkour is not merely a collection of spectacular animations between destinations; it is the way the character gains access to routes, escapes surveillance and keeps moving through a dense city.

Because the game has not launched, there is no verified list of button combinations, stamina rules, maximum wall height or cancellation behavior. The useful question is therefore not “Which key performs a wall-run?” but “What physical idea should the movement system communicate?” The answer is flow: speed should pass through an obstacle rather than being erased at it.

Momentum is the connective tissue of a parkour route

In a game, a vault can look like a single canned move. In real parkour, however, the run before the obstacle, the contact with it and the landing after it are one continuous action. A runner arrives with horizontal velocity, briefly changes its direction with a hand or foot, clears the obstacle and exits with enough speed to continue.

Approach speed creates height and distance

London Parkour’s step-vault lesson recommends taking one or two steps before the vault and placing the hand and foot without pausing in front of the obstacle. That approach matters for two reasons. First, forward speed supplies the energy needed to rise over the wall. Second, it prevents the body from having to start a new movement cycle after the obstacle. A stop turns a flowing route into a jump from rest; a moving entry lets the vault borrow speed from the run.

In Vasya Run, the visual equivalent would be a character whose stride, hand plant and landing remain connected. The camera may dip or swing as the body folds over a barrier, but the underlying route should still point forward. If the player reaches a low wall while sprinting, the ideal parkour reading is not “movement paused, animation played, movement resumed.” It is “the sprint was redirected over the wall.”

Contact redirects velocity instead of deleting it

A hand on a wall can support the body, rotate the torso or push the runner into a new line. A foot can add a short upward impulse. Neither contact needs to stop all forward motion. The amount redirected depends on approach angle, obstacle height and the chosen technique.

This is why two vaults over a similar barrier can feel different. A direct step vault keeps the body mostly facing the obstacle. A reverse-step vault turns the body into the wall and threads the legs through. A lazy vault approaches side-on and rotates the hips around a single hand support. Their animations differ because their momentum paths differ.

The landing determines whether the route stays fluid

A successful landing is not simply a safe collision with the ground. It is an exit condition. Landing on a foot that points along the next route preserves running speed; landing squarely with both feet may require a recovery step; landing in a crouch trades speed for stability. A movement system that communicates momentum should make those outcomes legible through posture, stride length and camera motion.

This also gives players a way to read level geometry. A wall that can be vaulted at running speed is part of a fast line. A taller barrier may require a slower approach, a climb or a different route. Even without published game rules, the parkour principle is consistent: choose the contact and landing that leave you in the best position for the next decision.

How wall-running turns sideways speed into upward travel

Wall-running is often described as running vertically, but the physical action is better understood as a short redirection of sideways momentum. You approach the wall, place the foot and hand at useful heights, push against the surface and convert part of your horizontal speed into an upward path.

The timing of a wall-run

London Parkour’s wall-run lesson emphasizes that speed helps the runner “curve up,” describing the movement as “that translation of sideways momentum to upwards momentum.” The lesson specifies a same-side hand-and-foot relationship and a ball-of-foot kick at roughly hip height, followed by a catch on the top edge of the wall.

Translated into a third-person game, the sequence would normally read as four beats:

  1. Approach: build enough lateral speed before reaching the wall.
  2. Plant: place the foot around hip height and coordinate the same-side hand for balance or support.
  3. Redirect: push away from the wall so the body travels upward instead of simply rebounding sideways.
  4. Catch or clear: reach the upper edge, vault over it or use the contact to continue toward another surface.

These are movement principles, not confirmed Vasya Run inputs. The released game could compress several beats into one command, require a timing window or make the action context-sensitive.

Why friction matters

A biomechanics paper hosted by Apex Movement provides the physical explanation. A runner moving nearly vertically must push away from the wall to create the frictional force that propels the body upward. Without that outward pressure, the shoe would lose useful traction and the body would slide or fall away from the surface.

The same video analysis reports greater peak height for subjects using multiple-contact techniques. The result is qualitative in the available material; no safely quotable sample size or effect size is provided. It does, however, explain why a wall-run is not just a jump performed next to a wall. The wall is an active support: the foot supplies force, the hand helps manage rotation and the timing of both contacts determines how much upward travel is possible.

What to watch for in the game’s eventual movement

If Vasya Run follows this model, a wall-run should have a limited window rather than behave like ordinary walking on a vertical surface. The character would need an approach line, a reachable wall height and enough speed to make the conversion worthwhile. A failed approach could produce a slide, a short rebound or a drop, depending on the final design.

Look for three visual cues when official gameplay becomes available: whether the foot plants before the body rises, whether the torso leans into the wall during the push and whether the landing preserves the original direction. Those cues reveal whether the action is communicating real redirection or merely playing a decorative wall animation.

Vaulting patterns and how they differ

“Vault” is a family of movements, not one universal animation. Entry direction, hand and foot contacts, torso rotation and landing pattern determine how a vault uses momentum. The following comparison uses documented London Parkour instruction as a terminology anchor; it does not claim that Vasya Run will include every variation or map each one to a separate button.

Technique Entry and contacts Body action Typical exit
Step/safety vault Approach with one or two steps; place a hand and the opposite foot Support the body while the legs clear the wall Land aligned with the route and continue running
Reverse-step vault Turn into the obstacle and plant a hand Hop the foot and step through the opening rather than rising straight up Carry the turn and forward momentum beyond the obstacle
Lazy vault Run toward a rail or wall from the side; use one hand Swing the inside leg over, then follow with the other leg Land on one foot and run out, with momentum increasing as technique improves

Step or safety vault

The step-vault lesson pairs a hand with the opposite foot. The runner does not freeze at the wall; the one- or two-step approach supplies speed, and the landing is arranged so the run can continue. In a game, this is the clearest everyday traversal move for waist-high walls, benches and similar barriers because it balances speed, control and a predictable exit.

Reverse-step vault

For a reverse-step vault, the practitioner turns into the obstacle, places a hand, hops the foot and steps through the gap. The important detail is that the body steps through rather than coming straight up and down. That preserves the line of travel while adding a turn. It is useful when the obstacle is close to a corner or when the runner wants to emerge facing a different direction.

Lazy vault

London Parkour describes the lazy vault while “running in and running out.” The practitioner approaches a side-on rail or wall, swings the inside leg over, follows with the other leg, lands on one foot and continues. Because the body rotates around a hand support, the technique is well suited to long rails and barriers that are easier to clear from an angled approach than head-on.

The tutorial emphasizes progressively increasing momentum. That detail is important for interpreting a game animation: a lazy vault should look faster and more committed as the approach accelerates, not identical at every speed.

How momentum, wall-runs and vaults can chain together

Parkour becomes distinctive when individual actions form a route. A practical chain might begin with a sprint, use a step vault to clear a low wall, angle toward a second surface, wall-run to gain a ledge and finish with a lazy vault over a rail. Each action changes the next approach.

Read the next contact before committing

The player should identify the next usable surface while still in the current move. A vault that lands facing a dead end may be technically successful but strategically poor. A wall-run needs a reachable upper edge; a side-on lazy vault needs enough lateral space for the legs to swing through. This makes urban geometry part of the movement system rather than background scenery.

Preserve direction when speed is valuable

Use a step vault when the route continues straight, a reverse-step when turning through the obstacle improves the line, and a lazy vault when a side-on approach offers the cleanest exit. The choice is not about showing off a particular trick. It is about selecting the contact pattern that loses the least useful speed while keeping the character oriented toward the next threat or hiding place.

Trade speed for control when the route demands it

Momentum is helpful until it makes a landing or turn unreliable. A player escaping surveillance may prefer a fast, exposed line across rooftops; a player trying to remain unseen may need a quieter, more controlled approach. The official premise places parkour beside stealth, so the meaningful design question will be how the game balances rapid traversal with visibility, noise or enemy sightlines. Those specific rules have not been published.

What is confirmed—and what remains unknown

Question Current answer
Is Vasya Run released? No. The Steam listing currently marks it “Coming soon.”
Which platforms are listed? Windows and macOS.
Is there a confirmed release date? Not stated on the retrieved Steam listing.
Are final controls documented? No confirmed control scheme is available in the published material described here.
Is wall-running confirmed as a specific input action? The official premise supports parkour movement, but a final wall-run input sequence is not confirmed.
Are height limits, stamina costs or failure animations published? Not stated.

These limits matter because it is easy to turn a plausible physical explanation into an invented feature list. The documented evidence supports a movement philosophy—speed redirected through contact—and real parkour examples that explain that philosophy. It does not establish whether the game uses stamina, automatic context detection, manual timing, upgrades, fall damage or a particular controller layout.

A concise mental model for understanding the movement

  • Enter with purpose: approach each obstacle from the angle that gives the desired exit.
  • Keep moving through contact: a hand or foot changes direction; it should not automatically reset the run.
  • Convert, do not imitate: a wall-run turns sideways velocity into upward travel through a foot push, hand coordination and friction.
  • Judge the landing: the move is successful when the character arrives ready for the next route decision.
  • Match the technique to the geometry: step, reverse-step and lazy vaults solve different approach and rotation problems.

That framework is the most reliable way to read Vasya Run before launch. It explains why the game’s parkour premise can support stealth, pursuit and exploration without pretending that unreleased controls or performance figures are already known.
