For more consistent Seedance 2.5 shots, plan the clip as a sequence: define the character, assign each reference a specific job, map actions to time ranges, and state the continuity rules that matter throughout. This gives the model clearer instructions, but it cannot guarantee that every generated shot will preserve a character’s identity.
Start by deciding what must stay consistent
Before writing shot directions, list the character traits that should remain unchanged across the clip. Keep this list short and specific: for example, face, hairstyle, blue coat, voice, and a red umbrella. Separate those fixed traits from details meant to change, such as expression, pose, or whether the umbrella is open.

Avoid contradictory alternatives such as “short or shoulder-length hair.” If the character needs a deliberate change, specify when it happens. That gives the shot plan a clear continuity target rather than asking the model to reconcile competing descriptions.

Number references in the order you upload them, then say what each one controls—and what it does not. Seedance’s prompting guide advises against leaving the model to infer who or what belongs to an image, or which details it should copy.

For example: “Image 1 defines Mara’s face, hair, and blue coat. Image 2 defines the station platform only. Video 1 supplies the camera path and action order only; do not copy its characters or color grade. Keep Mara’s appearance from Image 1 throughout.” This separates identity, setting, and motion instead of blending them into one vague instruction.
Seedance 2.5’s launch announcement says a single pass can accept up to 30 image references, 10 video clips, and 10 audio clips. Those are product limits, not a recommendation to use the maximum: include only assets with a clear purpose. ByteDance Seed’s announcement also describes multi-round extensions and timestamp-level editing; availability can depend on the platform.

Plan shots as contiguous timed beats
Begin with the clip format, duration, subject, setting, and overall direction. Then divide the action into adjacent time ranges, such as 0–3s, 3–7s, and 7–12s. For each beat, state the visible action first, followed by shot size or angle and camera movement. Use ordinary camera terms when possible; if a move is unusual, describe what the viewer should see.

Example of a compact shot plan
- 0–3s: Medium shot at eye level. Mara steps onto the station platform. Camera tracks left with her.
- 3–7s: Close-up. She turns toward an approaching train. Camera pushes in slowly; keep her face and blue coat as defined by Image 1.
- 7–10s: Wide shot. The train passes behind her as she raises the red umbrella. Camera holds steady.
The time ranges meet without gaps or overlaps, and each beat has one main action. Adjust the number and length of beats to suit the clip rather than forcing a fixed shot count.
Put continuity rules in a short global block
After the shot plan, state the appearance, palette, lighting, audio, and exclusions that apply throughout. Put the most important identity instruction up front, then repeat only the essential trait at a beat where it is especially relevant. Repeating the full character description in every line makes the prompt harder to scan without adding useful direction.

For instance, a continuity block might say: “Keep Mara’s face, shoulder-length black hair, blue coat, and voice consistent across all shots. The umbrella changes from closed to open in the final shot. Cool evening palette, soft station lighting. No subtitles or additional characters.” Make intentional changes explicit so they are not mistaken for continuity errors.

The Seedance guide distinguishes a storyboard’s broad planning role from the closer composition control of separate keyframes; a blockout can establish shot order and camera movement while images define design and appearance. Choose the format that solves the actual uncertainty in your scene, and label its scope just as clearly as any other reference.

Keep the ranges contiguous and the action load realistic for the duration. Seedance 2.5 supports up to 30 seconds per single-pass generation, according to ByteDance Seed’s 2026 launch announcement; that is a maximum, not a target length for every prompt.
Review the output and revise the source of the mismatch
Check the generated footage against the plan rather than judging consistency by impression alone. Look for the specific failure that occurred, then simplify or clarify the relevant instruction.
- Does the face and wardrobe remain recognizable from shot to shot?
- Do important props stay in the intended hands and places?
- Does the camera follow the planned movement and framing?
- Did each timed action happen in the intended interval?
If identity drifts, make the character reference’s role more explicit and simplify competing visual directions. If an action is missing, reduce the number of actions in that beat. If framing is off, use ordered keyframes or a clearly scoped blockout when those inputs are available in your chosen Seedance interface.
ByteDance says Seedance 2.5 improves continuity and can preserve the appearance and voice of multiple characters in complex scenarios. That is the vendor’s product claim; the available sources do not establish an independent success rate or show that a particular prompt formula guarantees identity consistency.

ByteDance’s July 31, 2026 announcement said Seedance 2.5 had rolled out on Jimeng AI, Doubao Pro, and other platforms, while BytePlus ModelArk API access was described as coming soon at publication time. Interfaces, regional access, and feature availability may differ, so confirm the current options in the platform you use rather than assuming every capability is available through every route.
