You can also use a supported PlayStation or Xbox, cast from a phone or computer to a compatible receiver, or view YouTube TV in a supported computer browser. Check Google’s current device list for your exact model before buying or setting anything up.
Use a streaming device for the simplest setup
A streaming player adds apps to a TV that does not have them built in. Connect a compatible player to the TV and internet, then download or open the YouTube TV app and sign in. The YouTube TV app is separate from the regular YouTube app.

Google lists supported devices and platforms including Chromecast with Google TV, Google TV devices, Apple TV (4th generation and 4K), Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Cube models, Roku players, TiVo Stream 4K, and Xfinity Flex devices. Support can depend on the exact model or generation, particularly for Roku and Apple TV, so check Google’s supported-device list before purchasing. Google also notes that some devices with 512 MB or less of memory may have a different experience or lack some features.

The receiving TV must support the relevant casting feature itself or be connected to a compatible receiver. Google lists Chromecast models as casting targets. Choose the route that fits your equipment
- Want an app and remote on the TV? Choose a supported streaming player or console.

- Prefer controlling playback from your phone or computer? Use casting, provided the TV or attached receiver supports the method and both devices share the same Wi-Fi network.
- Want to connect a computer directly? Match the computer’s output to an available TV input and confirm any adapter requirements.
Compatibility and available features vary by device. Google notes that capabilities such as 4K, 5.1 surround sound, full multiview, and background playback may differ; the YouTube TV app’s Device Capabilities area can show support for a particular device as a feature rolls out.
