These productions are separate interpretations, not chapters in one shared continuity, so release order is the clearest route. Recommended Street Fighter watch order
The list below follows first release, not the chronology of the games or the internal timeline of any one adaptation. That distinction matters because the franchise has been adapted into Japanese anime, Western animation, live-action films and web productions that do not form a single story.

1. Street Fighter (1994)
This live-action Hollywood film is the earliest major feature adaptation. It uses the game’s characters in an original military-action story centered on Colonel Guile and the conflict with M. Bison. Treat it as a self-contained interpretation rather than a prequel to any animated title. Watching it first gives you the historical starting point for Street Fighter on film, even though later productions do not continue its plot.

2. Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie (1994)
This Japanese animated feature is a separate adaptation of the Street Fighter II era. It brings together Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Guile, Bison and other familiar fighters in a feature-length anime story, with Bison’s organization tracking powerful fighters around the world. It is the most useful single starting point if you want the classic game-era cast and a concentrated anime experience. It is not connected as a sequel to the 1994 live-action movie.

3. Street Fighter II V (1995)
Street Fighter II V is a Japanese animated television series that reimagines the early adventures of Ryu and Ken. Although it uses the Street Fighter II name and recognizable characters, its characterization and storyline are distinct from the 1994 animated movie. Watch it after the film if you want another anime interpretation of the classic era, not because it continues that film’s ending.
-
4. Street Fighter: The Animated Series (1995–1997)
This Western animated television series is another independent branch. It adapts the game’s world for episodic television, with Guile functioning as a central hero and an ensemble of Street Fighter characters appearing across the run. Its tone, designs and story structure differ from both Japanese animated productions. Placing it here preserves release order while making clear that it is not a continuation of Street Fighter II V.
-
5. Street Fighter Alpha: The Animation (1999/2000, depending on market labeling)
This OVA-style feature draws from the Street Fighter Alpha period and focuses on an era of the game timeline that predates the main Street Fighter II setting. Release-year labels vary by market, with listings commonly showing 1999 or 2000. It works best as an optional side branch after the 1990s core entries rather than as the next episode in a unified anime series.

6. Street Fighter Alpha: Generations (2005)
Alpha: Generations is a later animated OVA/feature centered on the Alpha-era cast. It explores the rivalry and legacy surrounding Ryu and Ken in a separate interpretation from Alpha: The Animation. Watching the two Alpha titles together is useful for viewers interested in that game period, but their shared branding should not be mistaken for a tightly serialized television continuity.
-
7. Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li (2009)
This live-action film shifts the emphasis to Chun-Li and her personal conflict with Bison. It is a character-focused retelling, separate from the 1994 live-action film and from the animated branches. Watch it here for a later Hollywood interpretation, or move it earlier if Chun-Li is the character you most want to follow; neither choice changes the continuity of the other titles.
-
8. Street Fighter IV: The Ties That Bind (2009)
This animated feature is connected to the Street Fighter IV game era. It serves as a game-era tie-in rather than a sequel to the 1994 anime, the Alpha OVAs or the live-action films. Its placement after the 2009 Chun-Li film follows release order, while its story belongs to the separate Street Fighter IV branch.
-
9. Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist (2014)
Assassin’s Fist is a live-action origin story released first as a web series and also presented in film form. It concentrates on the history of Ryu and Ken and the martial-arts tradition that shapes them. Because the same production exists in episodic and film presentations, choose one format rather than watching both as separate story entries. Its continuity is independent of the earlier theatrical films.

10. Street Fighter: Resurrection (2016)
This live-action production follows the Assassin’s Fist production line. Watch it after Assassin’s Fist if you want that specific live-action storyline in sequence. It is not a follow-up to The Legend of Chun-Li or the 1994 film, so viewers following only the theatrical adaptations can treat it as an optional branch.

11. New live-action Street Fighter film (planned October 2026 release)
Capcom announced in 2023 that it would jointly produce a live-action film and television series based on Street Fighter with Legendary Entertainment. Corporate material later listed an October 2026 planned release, and filming and principal-character casting were reported in 2025. Until a final release date and territory-by-territory listings are confirmed, treat this as an announced production rather than an available chapter. Check local theatrical, rental and home-release information before scheduling it.
Why release order is the least confusing choice
Street Fighter does not have one screen canon. The games provide a shared source world, but each adaptation makes its own decisions about chronology, character roles, tone and visual style. A release-order marathon lets you see those decisions develop without forcing incompatible plots into a false timeline.
The two 1994 releases are parallel adaptations
The live-action Street Fighter and Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie arrived in the same year but tell unrelated stories. The first is a Hollywood military-action interpretation; the second is a Japanese anime built around the Street Fighter II cast and game-era conflict. Neither is a sequel to the other, and there is no required viewing order between them beyond the release sequence above.

The television series are separate experiences
Street Fighter II V and Street Fighter: The Animated Series share names and characters but not one continuing plot. The former is a Japanese reimagining of Ryu and Ken’s journey; the latter is a Western episodic cartoon with a different center of gravity and storytelling style. Watching one does not supply missing episodes or explanations for the other.
Alpha and IV are optional game-era branches
Street Fighter Alpha: The Animation and Street Fighter Alpha: Generations are best understood as Alpha-era side adaptations. The Ties That Bind belongs to the Street Fighter IV period. Their game-era labels help identify the material they draw from, but they do not create a single animated sequence with the 1994 film or the television entries.
The live-action web productions form their own line
Assassin’s Fist and Resurrection are the closest pair in the list because they come from the same live-action production line. Start with Assassin’s Fist, then continue to Resurrection. That relationship does not extend backward to the earlier theatrical films.
Choose a starting point based on what you want to watch
| If your priority is… | Start with… | Why |
|---|---|---|
| The classic game-era ensemble in anime form | Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie | It is a feature-length Japanese animation built around the familiar Street Fighter II cast. |
| Ryu and Ken’s origin story | Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist | The live-action web/film production concentrates on their training and shared history. |
| Chun-Li as the central character | Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li | It is the franchise’s character-focused live-action film for Chun-Li. |
| A complete historical survey | Street Fighter (1994) | It is the earliest major film adaptation, so it establishes the screen history before the animated branches. |
| Alpha-era material | Street Fighter Alpha: The Animation | It is the first Alpha-branded animated feature in the release order. |
| The IV game period | Street Fighter IV: The Ties That Bind | Its story is tied to the Street Fighter IV era rather than the earlier animated continuities. |
How to plan a practical marathon
For the shortest representative route
Watch Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie, then Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist, Street Fighter: Resurrection and, once released, the new 2026 film. This route samples the most prominent anime feature, the connected live-action web productions and the upcoming theatrical interpretation without requiring every television entry.

For a family or group viewing
Choose the title whose format matches the audience. The live-action films and web productions have a different tone from the animated features and television cartoons. A group that wants a single feature can begin with Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie; a group interested in serialized martial-arts backstory can choose Assassin’s Fist and continue to Resurrection.
Where to watch the Street Fighter adaptations
Availability changes by country, date and release format, so check a current availability aggregator such as JustWatch immediately before viewing. Search the exact title rather than only “Street Fighter,” because the 1994 live-action film, the animated movie, television series and later productions may appear under different listings.
Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie
At the cited availability snapshot, US listings showed the film on Prime Video and through Crunchyroll-related options, alongside digital rental or purchase and DVD/Blu-ray purchase paths. Those listings are not permanent: licensing, subtitles, dubs and storefront rights can change without notice. A result in one country does not establish availability in another.

Television and web entries
Series and web-origin productions are especially likely to move between services or appear only as physical releases. Check whether a listing includes the complete season, a film edit or only selected episodes. For Assassin’s Fist, confirm whether the service is offering the episodic web-series presentation or a condensed film presentation before starting.

4K, Blu-ray and DVD options
A concrete physical option is the Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie 4K UHD/Blu-ray release associated with Discotek. It is the strongest searchable choice for viewers who want a permanent copy of the central anime feature rather than relying on rotating streaming rights. Disc availability, regional compatibility and stock vary, so check the edition’s listed region, disc format and included audio before ordering.
The existence of a 4K edition for the animated movie does not mean that every Street Fighter film or series has a 4K release. Treat each title separately: a listing may be DVD, Blu-ray, digital HD or a standard-definition stream. If a store page does not explicitly identify 4K UHD, do not assume that a Blu-ray or digital listing has that resolution.
How the franchise became a screen-adaptation target
Capcom’s 2017 30th-anniversary material described cumulative Street Fighter sales of 39 million units at that time. The same corporate history identifies the original arcade launch in 1987 and the 1991 release of Street Fighter II as the breakthrough that established the series’ popularity. That history helps explain the variety of screen projects: different studios and markets repeatedly adapted the characters for the audience and format available to them.

Common watch-order mistakes to avoid
-
Do not place the animated movie after the live-action film as a sequel. They are independent 1994 adaptations.
-
Do not treat Street Fighter II V as a prequel to the Western animated series. They are separate television interpretations.
-
Do not assume “Alpha” means the same storyline twice. The two Alpha features are related by game-era inspiration, not presented here as a continuous serial.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy. -
Do not watch Resurrection first if you want its story to make sense. It follows the Assassin’s Fist production line.
-
Do not treat the October 2026 date as proof of availability. It is a planned release; local theatrical and home-release status must be confirmed.
-
Do not infer 4K support from a generic “HD” listing. Check the exact physical or digital edition.
Bottom line for first-time viewers
Use the eleven-title release order for a complete survey, beginning with the 1994 live-action film and the 1994 animated feature, then moving through the separate television, Alpha, IV-era and live-action branches. If you want only one entry, choose Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie for the classic anime ensemble or Assassin’s Fist for a Ryu-and-Ken origin story. Add the new film only when its announced 2026 release is confirmed in your territory.
