Know what “finished loading” means
A browser navigation milestone is not necessarily the same as “the content I need is ready.” A page can fire its load event while client-side rendering or data fetching is still underway. Conversely, some sites keep network activity open for analytics, polling, or other background work after the visible content is ready.
Playwright documents navigation milestones including domcontentloaded and load. It discourages networkidle for testing and recommends using web assertions to assess readiness. For a screenshot, define readiness in terms of the content that should appear, such as a chart being rendered or a particular heading becoming visible—not simply the passage of time or a quiet network.

loadproves the application’s data and client-side rendering are complete. - Wait for the content or state that matters. Use a stable selector or an assertion tied to the page’s expected state. A selector is useful only if it represents the content you actually need in the screenshot.
- Capture after that condition is met. If Cloudinary delivery is still required, upload or deliver the captured image through your Cloudinary workflow.
Cloudflare’s Browser Rendering APIs illustrate that rendering services can expose explicit waits: its screenshot endpoint documents gotoOptions.waitUntil, while its snapshot endpoint documents gotoOptions.waitUntil and waitForSelector/waitForTimeout. Those are Cloudflare controls, not Cloudinary URL2PNG parameters: Cloudflare screenshot API and Cloudflare snapshot API.
Set up Cloudinary access before troubleshooting the URL
Cloudinary requires an account and URL2PNG add-on registration. Its documentation says add-on delivery URLs generally need to be signed or eagerly generated, unless unsigned add-on transformations are enabled in Console Settings. If a URL2PNG example does not work as an unsigned delivery URL, check those account and delivery settings rather than assuming the delay syntax is at fault. The Cloudinary delivery types documentation also identifies url2png as the delivery type for website screenshots and notes that it requires the add-on.
Troubleshoot early or unsuccessful screenshots
- The screenshot misses JavaScript-rendered content: A fixed delay may be too short for that page’s current rendering time. Increase it cautiously and verify the result, or switch to browser automation and wait for the specific content.
- The screenshot is inconsistent from run to run: The page may render asynchronously. A fixed delay cannot confirm that content is present; use a page-specific selector or state assertion in browser automation.
- The URL is rejected or does not deliver an image: Confirm that the Cloudinary account has URL2PNG add-on registration and that the URL meets the current signing or eager-generation requirements. Unsigned delivery depends on the relevant Console Settings.
- You are looking for a Cloudinary selector or network-idle parameter: The reviewed URL2PNG documentation does not document either as an option. Do not assume browser automation or another provider’s parameter names apply to URL2PNG.
- A wait for network idle never completes, or completes before the target is ready: Persistent network activity can prevent a quiet period, and a quiet network does not establish that the desired page content is rendered. Prefer a readiness assertion tied to that content.
