For a network you joined before, you can also find it in the saved-network list; on iOS 18 and later, the Passwords app has a Wi-Fi list. To let someone join without reading the password aloud, use Apple’s nearby sharing prompt or show the network’s QR code.
View the password for the Wi-Fi network you’re using
On an iPhone running iOS 16 or later, open Settings > Wi-Fi. Tap the information button beside the connected network, then tap Password. Authenticate with your device passcode, Face ID, or Touch ID to reveal the saved password. Apple documents the same capability on iPad with iPadOS 16.1 or later. Apple’s saved-password instructions cover these steps.

This works for a password saved on the device. It does not retrieve a password for a network the iPhone or iPad has never joined.
Find a password for a network you joined before
Use the saved-network list in Settings
- Open Settings > Wi-Fi.
- Tap Edit and authenticate when prompted to see previously joined networks.
- Tap the information button beside the network you need, then tap Password.
Use the Passwords app on iOS 18 or later
- Open the Passwords app and tap Wi-Fi.
- Select the saved network.
- Tap its Password field to view it, or choose Copy Password to use it elsewhere.
Apple documents the Passwords app route on iPhone and iPad. See its guides for finding saved Wi-Fi passwords and managing Wi-Fi on iPad.
#1 Best Overall
- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
Choose how to get another device connected
| Method | Best for | What the other person needs |
|---|---|---|
| Reveal or copy the password | Reading the credential, entering it manually, or using it somewhere else | The password and access to the Wi-Fi sign-in screen |
| Nearby Apple-device sharing | Connecting a person who is physically nearby with an Apple device | Apple Account sign-in and the contact details described below |
| Network QR code | Letting someone scan to join a saved network | A device able to scan the displayed code |
The QR code shares network access; Apple’s instructions do not describe it as a way to display a readable password string. These methods have different setup requirements, and Apple does not publish comparative speed, privacy, or reliability testing. For the official procedures, see Apple’s iPhone and iPad Wi-Fi sharing guide.
Share Wi-Fi with someone nearby using Apple’s prompt
Check the setup first
- Turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on both devices, and keep them close together.
- Both people must be signed in to an Apple Account. The person receiving access must have the sharer’s Apple Account email address or phone number saved in Contacts.
- Turn off Personal Hotspot on both devices.
- The sharing iPhone or iPad must be unlocked and connected to the Wi-Fi network.
Send the password
- On the recipient’s device, open Wi-Fi settings and select the network.
- Wait for the sharing device to show the prompt, then tap Share Password.
- Follow the remaining on-screen prompt to finish connecting.
Apple’s Wi-Fi password-sharing instructions describe this nearby process. Its Platform Security documentation, published December 19, 2024, says supported Apple devices use a mechanism similar to AirDrop: the requester advertises a request over Bluetooth Low Energy, and a nearby device with the password verifies the requester’s identity using a process that uses contact information before sending the password. Organizations can restrict Wi-Fi password sharing on managed devices.

- Dual-band Wi-Fi with 5 GHz speeds up to 867 Mbps and 2.4 GHz speeds up to 300 Mbps, delivering 1200 Mbps of total bandwidth¹. Dual-band routers do not support 6 GHz. Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- Covers up to 1,000 sq. ft. with four external antennas for stable wireless connections and optimal coverage.
- Supports IGMP Proxy/Snooping, Bridge and Tag VLAN to optimize IPTV streaming
- Access Point Mode - Supports AP Mode to transform your wired connection into wireless network, an ideal wireless router for home
- Advanced Security with WPA3 - The latest Wi-Fi security protocol, WPA3, brings new capabilities to improve cybersecurity in personal networks
Show a network QR code
To offer a scan-to-join option, open the saved network’s details and select Show Network QR Code. The other person can scan the displayed code to join. This is a way to share access; it should not be treated as a separate accessory or as a promise that the password will appear as readable text. Apple includes the QR option in its Wi-Fi sharing guide.
If you can’t reveal the password or the share prompt doesn’t appear
The password is not saved on this device
Check another Apple device that joined the network, the router’s administration page if you administer it, the router label or setup documentation, or ask the internet provider or venue staff. Do not access a router you are not authorized to administer. Wi-Fi passwords are case-sensitive. Apple lists these options in its guide to getting help with a Wi-Fi password.

- NIGHTHAWK WIFI 6 ROUTER FOR YOUR WHOLE HOME: Delivers fast, reliable WiFi across every room of your apartment or small home for streaming, gaming, video calls, and smart home devices, all running at the same time without slowing each other down.
- WORKS WITH YOUR EXISTING INTERNET SERVICE: Pairs with your existing modem or gateway via ethernet. Compatible with most cable, fiber, DSL, and satellite providers. Some gateways and modem router combos may require bridge mode. No coax needed.
- SET UP AND MANAGE YOUR NETWORK WITH THE NIGHTHAWK APP: Download the free Nighthawk app on iOS or Android for guided setup. Manage WiFi, run speed tests, pause devices, and set up guest networks from anywhere. Active internet required.
- READY FOR THE DEVICES YOU ALREADY OWN: Your phones, laptops, and TVs work right out of the box. WiFi 6 delivers speeds up to 1.8 Gbps across 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Backward compatible with WiFi 5 and earlier.
- COVERAGE IN EVERY ROOM: Covers up to 1,500 sq. ft. for up to 20 connected devices. Walls, floors, and interference can reduce range. Larger or multi-story homes may benefit from a NETGEAR Orbi mesh WiFi system.
Nearby sharing does not start
- Recheck Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, proximity, Apple Account sign-in, saved contact details, and Personal Hotspot settings.
- Confirm the sharing device is unlocked and connected to the network.
- If the setup animation does not appear, Apple suggests restarting both devices.
- If sharing still fails, enter the password manually or use the QR-code option if available.
- If either device is managed by an organization, its policy may prevent password sharing.
Apple describes these troubleshooting steps in its Wi-Fi sharing guide and explains the managed-device restriction in its security documentation.
