How to Verify Dell System Update Is Patched on Linux

Check Dell System Update on Linux with dsu -v. Dell’s DSA-2026-324 fixes the affected versions at DSU 2.3.0.0 or later.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Run dsu -v on the Linux host and compare the version shown with Dell’s current fixed-version threshold: DSU 2.3.0.0 or later is remediated; versions earlier than 2.3.0.0 are affected by Dell advisory DSA-2026-324. The advisory, initially released October 1, 2026, rates the impact Critical. A version check tells you about DSU only—not whether the rest of the host is patched or secure.

Check the installed DSU version

  1. Log in to the Linux host where Dell System Update (DSU) is installed. Run:

    dsu -v

Dell’s Linux user guide documents this command to display the DSU version. It also documents dsu --version for the same purpose and dsu -h to display help and verify the utility is available.

  2. Record the exact version string and the host identity. If a wrapper, scheduled job, container, or deployment image runs DSU, check the version in that actual execution environment rather than assuming the interactive shell uses the same installation.

  3. Compare the reported version with the fixed version in Dell security advisory DSA-2026-324: versions below 2.3.0.0 are affected; 2.3.0.0 or later is remediated for this advisory.

The version command is documented in Dell’s Linux guide for DSU 1.9.2.0; the current threshold comes from the newer advisory, not that older guide.

What to do if the version is below 2.3.0.0

  1. Obtain a remediated release using Dell’s advisory/remediation link or a Dell-supported package channel for your platform.

  2. Install it through the Linux distribution and deployment process applicable to the server. Dell describes DSU packages for Linux and directs administrators to release notes for current changes on its DSU product page.

  3. Run dsu -v again in the environment that performs updates. Preserve the output, host identity, check time, package source, and change record so the result is tied to the system and remediation event.

Before changing a managed host, confirm the operating-system release, package source, and deployment method against current Dell guidance. Dell describes DSU for Linux working with the Dell Enterprise Catalog, a custom catalog created with Dell Repository Manager, or the Dell Linux Repository; those options are not necessarily interchangeable in every environment.

Check the repository or mirror used by the host

A successful version comparison is meaningful only if you check the installation that actually runs and obtain updates through the intended channel. Dell’s Linux repository page publishes dated snapshots as well as a moving latest repository and pinned, version-specific locations. If your organization mirrors or pins packages, inspect the configured source and confirm which DSU package it offers instead of assuming it has the latest release.

Dell lists Linux packages for several RHEL, SLES, and Ubuntu releases and says DSU is designed to work with community distributions such as Debian. Verify support for the specific operating-system release and deployment arrangement using Dell’s DSU product guidance and Linux repository information.

What the advisory says—and what the check proves

DSA-2026-324 identifies five vulnerabilities in DSU versions earlier than 2.3.0.0. Dell rates the advisory Critical and recommends upgrading at the earliest opportunity. Its published CVSS base scores are:

CVE-2026-86362 8.2
CVE-2026-63697 7.6
CVE-2026-71168 7.3

Dell describes CVE-2026-86360 as a path traversal issue that could allow an unauthenticated remote attacker to execute arbitrary code with root privileges under the conditions stated in its advisory. The figures above are Dell’s base scores, not a risk assessment for a particular server; Dell advises customers to consider relevant temporal and environmental scores as well.
