The safest way to verify a Flipkart iPhone is to inspect it through Open Box Delivery before accepting it, match the serial number and IMEI across the phone, box and invoice, then check the serial number in Apple’s coverage system. Also review Settings > General > About for Parts and Service History. Apple recognising a serial number is useful evidence, but it does not by itself prove that the phone is unused, that the listing was authorised, or that every fault will be covered.
Do these checks before giving the delivery OTP whenever Open Box Delivery is offered. Keep the Flipkart tax invoice and order record: Apple may require proof of purchase, particularly when the coverage start date is wrong or the device was sold through a marketplace.

What to check, in the right order
- Before delivery: save the order page, seller name, promised warranty wording, invoice when available, and the product page’s return or replacement terms.
- At the door: request Flipkart Open Box Delivery inspection before acceptance or sharing the OTP, if the service appears on your order.
- Physically: confirm the exact model, colour, storage, condition, accessories, packaging and seals.
- Identifiers: compare the serial number and IMEI on the iPhone with the box label and tax invoice.
- Apple systems: use Apple’s Check Coverage service, then review Settings > General > AppleCare & Warranty and Settings > General > About > Parts and Service History.
- Document everything: photograph the box, invoice, labels, phone and any defect before leaving the delivery interaction.
- Use the correct remedy: take delivery problems to Flipkart; use Apple or an Apple Authorised Service Provider for Apple warranty service.
Open Box eligibility, seller policies and return conditions vary by order, seller, product category and location. Treat the order page as the controlling information for your shipment.

Save the commercial record
Open the order while you still have access to it and save screenshots or a PDF of:

- the seller’s legal or displayed name and rating;
- the exact iPhone model, storage and colour;
- the stated manufacturer-warranty language;
- the promised delivery and return or replacement terms;
- the invoice, once Flipkart makes it available; and
- whether the order is marked for Open Box Delivery.
Do not infer that a replacement guarantee is identical for every iPhone order. Flipkart says replacement guarantees vary by seller policy and product category. A low price is not proof of a counterfeit, and a high price is not proof of authenticity. The useful evidence is the seller record, the physical inspection, matching identifiers, Apple’s coverage information and the written terms.
Understand the Open Box limitation
Flipkart describes Open Box Delivery as an opportunity to open and inspect eligible mobile orders before acceptance. If the item is unsatisfactory, you can ask for the applicable return or rejection process at that point. Flipkart’s returns guidance also says Open Box returns are generally limited to manufacturing defects. That makes the doorstep inspection particularly important: do not assume you can later return a phone simply because you missed an obvious dent, wrong colour or missing accessory.
Inspect the shipment before giving the OTP
Ask for the inspection first
When the delivery agent arrives, ask whether the order has Open Box Delivery and state clearly that you want to inspect the phone before accepting it. Do not share the delivery OTP until you have completed the checks and decided to accept the package. The exact hand-off process can differ by order, so follow the agent’s on-screen workflow while making sure the inspection happens before acceptance is recorded.

Look at every side of the shipping package and retail box. Photograph the condition before opening it. Note crushed corners, punctures, water marks, torn tape, a box that appears re-sealed, or labels that have been covered or replaced. A damaged shipping carton does not establish that the iPhone is fake, but it is a reason to inspect more carefully and create a record.
Confirm the item against the order
With the box open, compare the phone with the order page:
- Model: make sure the advertised model is the model supplied.
- Colour: check the finish against the selected colour.
- Storage: verify the capacity shown in the order and on the device.
- Condition: inspect the display, frame, cameras, buttons and back for dents, scratches, cracks or other handling marks.
- Accessories: check the items promised in the listing and anything expected in the retail package.
- Packaging: look for tampering, missing seals or evidence that the box was previously opened.
Do not rely on the box artwork alone. A box can be genuine while containing the wrong handset, and a matching label does not establish that the phone has never been activated or repaired.

Record discrepancies immediately
If the model, colour, storage, condition, accessories or packaging is wrong, tell the agent before acceptance. Ask that the problem be recorded in the delivery workflow. Take clear photographs of the issue, the shipping label, the retail-box label and the invoice if one is present. Then use Flipkart order support and the applicable seller return or replacement process. Do not accept first and hope that a later complaint will be treated the same way as a documented Open Box discrepancy.

After opening the package, compare identifiers in all available places. You are looking for an exact match, including every character; do not overlook a zero-versus-letter difference.

On the iPhone, use the setup information when it is shown, or open Settings > General > About. Compare the serial number and IMEI with the box and invoice. A mismatch is a reason to pause acceptance or raise a Flipkart issue. Photograph all three sources so the characters remain legible.
A matching box and phone do not, on their own, prove Apple warranty eligibility. They show consistency among the package, handset and purchase paperwork. Warranty status still needs to be checked in Apple’s systems, and the invoice should be retained in case Apple asks for proof of purchase.
Check Apple coverage and the purchase date
Use Apple’s Check Coverage service
Enter the iPhone’s serial number in Apple’s official Check Coverage service. Record a screenshot of the result showing the device recognition, coverage status, coverage end date and any AppleCare information that appears. Apple describes this service as the place to view device coverage and benefits.
Use the serial number from the phone, not only the one printed on the box. If the phone and box disagree, resolve the discrepancy before treating either result as proof of the handset you received.

Confirm coverage on the iPhone
Once the phone is available, open Settings > General > AppleCare & Warranty. Review the plan, expiry information and any AppleCare status shown there. You can also sign in to Apple’s My Support to view coverage information associated with the device and your Apple account.
Coverage dates, AppleCare availability and service options can depend on the device, country and date. A result that says coverage has begun may indicate prior activation or a date calculated from Apple’s records; it is not a promise that the marketplace listing was authorised or that the device is unused.
What each result does—and does not—establish

For any result that conflicts with the listing, save the screenshot and contact Apple Support with the serial number and original Flipkart invoice. Ask whether the purchase date can be corrected and what proof is required. Do not promise yourself that Apple will change the date; the decision depends on Apple’s records, device and region.

On iOS 15.2 or later, open Settings > General > About and look for Parts and Service History. Apple says this section can identify repaired components and may label them Genuine, Unknown, Unverified or Used.
How to read the labels
- Genuine: the section identifies a component as using a genuine Apple part.
- Unknown: Apple reports that the part or repair needs attention; ask questions before treating a supposedly new phone as new.
- Unverified: the part cannot be verified in the way Apple describes; seek an explanation.
- Used: the component is identified as previously used.
On a listing sold as new, an Unknown, Unverified or Used entry should trigger questions about refurbishment or repair history. It is not, by itself, a measurement of counterfeit status. Combine it with the physical condition, activation or coverage dates, seller terms and invoice. If the history does not match the listing, document the screen and use Flipkart’s order support while the order’s return or replacement route is available.
How to tell whether the phone may have been activated earlier
No single screen proves that a marketplace iPhone has never been activated. Use several clues together:

- There will be no visible cosmetic imperfections when held at an arm’s length.
- This product is eligible for a replacement or refund within 90 days of receipt if you are not satisfied.
- Product may come in generic Box.
- Compare Apple’s recorded coverage start and end dates with the date you bought the phone.
- Check AppleCare & Warranty for an existing plan or an expiry date that does not fit a new purchase.
- Review Parts and Service History on iOS 15.2 or later.
- Look for handling marks, missing or disturbed packaging and accessories that do not appear unused.
- Check that the serial number and IMEI remain consistent across the device, box and invoice.
An earlier coverage start date can have explanations that are not visible from the listing. It is therefore a reason to ask Apple for clarification and to preserve evidence, not a licence to label the phone counterfeit without further proof.

Damage, wrong item, missing accessory or identifier mismatch
- Stop the acceptance process if Open Box inspection is still in progress.
- Show the problem to the delivery agent and ask for it to be recorded.
- Photograph the defect or discrepancy, the box label, the device screen and the invoice.
- Use Flipkart order support and select the return, replacement or issue category that matches the order’s terms.
- Keep the phone, box and accessories together until Flipkart gives handling instructions.
Flipkart’s seller terms state that sellers are responsible for authenticity or genuineness and for applicable warranty, refund, return, replacement and exchange benefits. The exact remedy still depends on the seller policy, product category and order conditions.
Apple recognises the phone but coverage is missing or the date is wrong
- Save the Check Coverage result and the AppleCare & Warranty screen.
- Gather the Flipkart tax invoice, order number, seller details, serial number and IMEI.
- Contact Apple Support and ask what evidence is needed to review or correct the purchase date.
- Keep Flipkart’s written warranty wording and any support case number.
Do not treat a missing online result as conclusive proof that the phone is fake. It may reflect a date, region or record issue, but only Apple can explain the status for that serial number.
You need a warranty repair
For an Apple warranty claim, use Apple or an Apple Authorised Service Provider. Apple states: “Only repairs performed directly by Apple or by an Apple Authorised Service Provider are covered by Apple’s Limited Warranty and AppleCare plans.” Bring the iPhone and Flipkart invoice if requested. An unauthorised repair can affect how Apple handles a later warranty or AppleCare claim, so choose the service channel carefully.

Do not claim that a particular Flipkart seller is authorised by Apple unless Apple or the seller provides current evidence. Marketplace seller status and Apple service eligibility are separate questions.

Never post the full serial number or IMEI publicly. Share those identifiers only with Flipkart, Apple or an Apple Authorised Service Provider through their official support channels.
Questions that often cause confusion
Does a matching serial number prove the iPhone is genuine?
No. A match shows that the phone, box and paperwork identify the same device. Apple’s coverage system and the Parts and Service History screen add stronger evidence, while physical inspection and seller terms address condition and fulfilment. No single check establishes every aspect of authenticity and warranty eligibility.
Can I rely on the Apple coverage page instead of inspecting the box?
No. Coverage status cannot reveal a wrong colour, missing accessory, shipping damage or an identifier mismatch discovered at delivery. Open Box inspection is the point at which those problems can be documented before acceptance.

What if Open Box Delivery is not offered?
Follow the order’s stated return and replacement terms, record an unboxing video or clear photographs, compare identifiers immediately and run Apple’s coverage checks as soon as the phone is available. Because Open Box eligibility varies by order and location, do not assume an inspection service exists when it is not shown on the order.
Is an earlier Apple activation date automatic proof that the phone was sold as used?
No. It is a discrepancy that needs an explanation. Check the coverage dates, Parts and Service History, physical condition and invoice, then ask Apple whether its records can be reviewed or corrected.
Who should handle a defective iPhone: Flipkart or Apple?
Use Flipkart for a wrong, damaged, incomplete or mismatched delivery and for the seller’s return or replacement process. Use Apple or an Apple Authorised Service Provider for Apple warranty service, keeping the Flipkart invoice as proof of purchase.
