How to Verify a Token Contract and Avoid Fake RTX Tokens

A token’s ticker and logo are not proof of identity. Verify the full contract address on the right network before connecting a wallet or signing.

Verify a token by its full contract address on the correct blockchain—not by its name, ticker, logo, wallet balance, or website appearance. Find the expected address through an independently trusted source from the issuer, compare every character, and inspect that address on the relevant network’s explorer before connecting a wallet or signing. “RTX” can refer to NVIDIA graphics products or the crypto token associated with Remittix; the ticker alone identifies neither. Remittix-branded pages surfaced conflicting Ethereum addresses, so neither address should be treated here as confirmed.

Why the contract address matters

Token names and symbols are not unique. Unrelated contracts can use the same or similar name and ticker, while the contract address identifies a particular on-chain token on a particular network. Ethereum.org’s guide puts the distinction plainly: “Scam tokens cannot use the same contract address.” That makes an exact address essential—but finding an address on an explorer does not by itself prove that the issuer backs it.

A network matters too. The same-looking address format can appear on multiple chains, and an address on one chain does not automatically identify the issuer’s asset on another. Confirm both the chain and the complete address.

How to verify a token contract

  1. Start from a trusted issuer channel. Navigate to the project’s known website through a bookmark or another independently trusted route, rather than relying on a sponsored search result, unsolicited message, airdrop, or social post. Look for the token address in the issuer’s documentation or token page.
  2. Copy the complete address and identify the network. Do not rely on the token name, ticker, logo, or a shortened address. Ethereum.org recommends checking an issuing organization’s address information and bookmarking authentic sites: How to identify scam tokens.
  3. Search independently on the correct network’s explorer. Open the explorer yourself and search the full address. Compare the explorer result with the issuer’s published address character by character. A few changed characters can point to a different contract.
  4. Check the surrounding evidence. Look for consistent address information in the issuer’s documentation, explorer warnings, verified source code, and recognition by established ecosystem tools. Treat trading activity and liquidity only as context, not authentication.
  5. Inspect the wallet request before signing. Check the site domain, selected network, full recipient or contract address, requested amount, and permissions in the wallet’s transaction details. Stop if the request includes an unexplained token allowance, asks for your seed phrase, or requests an unrelated transfer.

What an explorer can—and cannot—tell you

Explorer signal What it can indicate What it does not prove
Verified source code The explorer’s process matched submitted source code to deployed bytecode. That the issuer authorized the contract or that it is benign. Scammers can publish code too.
Named token or recognized label A useful clue for identifying an asset. That it is conclusively the issuer’s token. MetaMask says its “Verified” status is not investment advice and does not guarantee safety or value: What is token verification?
Liquidity or trading activity Thin liquidity or large price impact can be a warning sign. That a token is authentic. Healthy-looking liquidity is not issuer authentication, and liquidity can change quickly.
Holders, balances, or transfer events That the contract reports activity or balances. That the token is genuine; scam contracts can create misleading appearances.
No warning label Only that the explorer did not display a warning. A clean bill of health. The FBI describes explorer information as a screening aid, not an official determination of legitimacy: FBI public service announcement.

Explorer labels and activity are clues to investigate, not substitutes for matching the exact address to an independently reached issuer source.

Before connecting a wallet or signing

  • Check that the website domain is the one you intended to visit; a familiar logo does not authenticate a site.
  • Confirm the selected network and inspect the full recipient or contract address and the requested amount in the wallet prompt.
  • Read the permission being requested. A token approval can grant spending authority that remains active after the initial interaction.
  • Reject requests for a seed phrase, an unexplained allowance, or a transfer unrelated to the action you intended.

Ethereum.org’s wallet-safety guidance explains why transaction details and permissions matter: How to identify scam tokens. Never sign simply because a page or token appeared in a search result.

What to do if you already approved or interacted

  1. Use a known, trusted approval checker to review active token permissions for the wallet and network involved.
  2. Revoke approvals you do not recognize or no longer need, taking care to use the correct wallet and network. Revoking an approval does not reverse a transfer already completed.
  3. Save transaction hashes, wallet and contract addresses, screenshots, and relevant communications before reporting the suspected scam. The FBI offers reporting guidance at IC3.
  4. Ignore unsolicited promises to recover funds. Do not share a seed phrase or grant further access to someone claiming they can help.

What the conflicting Remittix RTX addresses mean

“RTX” is ambiguous: NVIDIA uses the name for graphics products, while Remittix uses RTX as a crypto ticker. In Remittix-branded materials surfaced in the search performed on October 4, 2026, a token page and FAQ gave materially different Ethereum contract addresses, and another branded result showed a truncated address. These are conflicting project-published claims, not independent confirmation of which address is authoritative.

Because that mismatch is unresolved, do not use either address from those pages as a basis to buy, import, approve, or transfer a token. Obtain the current address through a separately authenticated Remittix channel, then verify the full address and network with the workflow above before taking any action. A Remittix-branded guide also described the token as being in presale, but its update was about a year before the October 2026 search; that statement is not reliable evidence of current availability or market status.
