Download Ledger Wallet only from Ledger’s official download page, then verify the desktop installer before opening it. Ledger’s process checks the installer’s SHA-512 digest against Ledger’s published checksum and verifies the checksum’s signature; macOS also has a developer identity check. For a Ledger OS update, prepare your recovery method first, then use the app’s My Ledger section when an update is offered.

Ledger calls its current app Ledger Wallet; the product page identifies Ledger Live as its former name. Use Ledger’s official download page to choose the desktop or mobile download route for your operating system. Avoid search-ad downloads, third-party mirrors, and files sent through messages.

Verify a desktop installer before installing it
Ledger’s desktop procedure has two linked checks. First, calculate the downloaded installer’s SHA-512 digest and compare it with the value Ledger publishes. Then verify the signature on Ledger’s checksum file using the public-key material specified in Ledger’s guide. The digest comparison checks that the installer matches the published file; the signature check helps establish that the checksum itself was signed by Ledger.

A digest match without validating the signed provenance of the checksum provides less assurance. Do not substitute a checksum copied from an unrelated site or a file-sharing post. If you are unsure how to carry out either check on your system, use Ledger’s current platform-specific instructions rather than guessing at commands.
Windows
Ledger’s guide describes using PowerShell’s Get-FileHash with the SHA-512 algorithm. Calculate the hash of the downloaded installer, then compare the full result with Ledger’s published SHA-512 value. Follow the guide’s steps to verify the checksum file’s signature as well.

Use the terminal procedure in Ledger’s guide to calculate and compare the installer’s SHA-512 digest and verify the checksum signature. Ledger also documents a check of the app’s signing identity, with TeamIdentifier X6LFS5BQKN. Because signing identifiers and procedures can change, check the live guide for the exact commands and expected identity before relying on this value.

Linux
Ledger’s instructions describe using a hashing utility to compute the installer’s SHA-512 digest and comparing it with Ledger’s published value. Follow the Linux-specific instructions for the checksum signature rather than applying a command intended for another operating system.

What to do if a check fails
- If the installer’s digest differs from Ledger’s published value, do not install or run the file.
- If the checksum signature does not verify successfully, stop; a matching digest alone does not establish that the checksum came from Ledger.
- On macOS, stop if the app’s identity does not match the expected identity in Ledger’s current guide.
- In any of these cases, contact Ledger Support and obtain a fresh download through Ledger’s official page instead of trying to repair or bypass the check.
Update Ledger Wallet and the device safely
Updating the desktop or mobile app is separate from updating the hardware wallet’s operating system. Get the latest Ledger Wallet app through Ledger’s official download page. To apply a Ledger OS update when it is offered, follow Ledger’s update guidance:
- Make sure you can access your recovery method before beginning. Keep your 24-word Secret Recovery Phrase private; do not enter it into Ledger Wallet, a website, or a support chat as part of an update.
- Connect and unlock your Ledger device, then open Ledger Wallet.
- Open My Ledger and follow the in-app prompt if a Ledger OS update is available for your device.
- Let the update complete by following the on-screen instructions. If no update appears, it may not yet be available to your account or device; Ledger says updates may be rolled out gradually.
Ledger Support says a firmware update has a small chance of resetting the device. If that happens, recovery requires the Secret Recovery Phrase or a backup. Ledger does not provide a numerical probability in the cited guidance, so “small chance” should not be interpreted as a measured rate. Update availability and the steps supported can also vary by device model and whether you are using desktop or mobile.
