There is no documented standalone Screenshot Machine CLI or Windows CLI installer in the official materials reviewed. You can use Screenshot Machine from a Windows command prompt through its documented Node.js library or by calling its hosted HTTP API directly. The documented package install is npm install screenshotmachine --save; it installs a dependency for Node.js code, not a verified command named screenshotmachine.
What you can install—and what you cannot assume
Screenshot Machine is a hosted website-screenshot API. Its vendor-maintained Node.js example is a library for application code, rather than documentation for a standalone shell program. 1. Confirm Node.js and npm are available
Open PowerShell or Command Prompt and run:
node --version
npm --versionBoth commands should print version numbers. If either is not recognized, install Node.js using its official Windows distribution and open a new terminal, then check again. Screenshot Machine’s reviewed materials assume Node.js and npm but do not specify a minimum Node.js version or document Windows-specific installation steps.

2. Create a project and install the package
In PowerShell, create a project folder, move into it, initialize npm, and install the documented dependency:
mkdir screenshot-machine-test
cd screenshot-machine-test
npm init -y
npm install screenshotmachine --saveThe vendor example gives npm install screenshotmachine --save. This records the package as a project dependency. Do not substitute npm install -g screenshotmachine expecting a CLI: the reviewed materials do not document a global executable.
3. Get a customer key and keep it private
Create or sign in to a Screenshot Machine account and retrieve the customer key from your user profile, as the Node.js example instructs. Treat the key like a password: do not commit it to a public repository, paste it into shared logs, or publish it in a webpage.

The vendor’s Node.js example imports screenshotmachine, supplies the customer key and target page URL, then generates an API URL or reads and saves the returned screenshot. Follow the repository’s example for the exact library interface, and place your key in a local environment variable rather than hard-coding it. The reviewed documentation does not establish a minimum Node.js version.

Call the HTTP API directly instead
If your script can make an HTTP GET request, you can skip the package and call the hosted API. Screenshot Machine says API calls start with https://api.screenshotmachine.com/? followed by query parameters. Requests require a customer key and a webpage URL. Percent-encode the page URL when constructing the query string. Screenshot Machine API documentation
The API documentation describes parameters including output dimensions, format, device, cache age, delay, and zoom. Choose only the options your capture needs; the response is the screenshot image to save or process in your own workflow. The API guide is the reference for parameter names and accepted values.
Which approach fits?

Using it from India
The reviewed installation and API materials describe the same Node.js and HTTP steps without a separate India-specific setup. They do not establish whether every India-based account, payment method, tax arrangement, or service use is supported. Check Screenshot Machine’s current account and billing terms for those questions before relying on availability.

Troubleshooting
node or npm is not recognized
Node.js may not be installed or its executable directory may not be on PATH. Install Node.js for Windows, start a fresh terminal, and rerun node --version and npm --version.
npm install screenshotmachine --save fails
Check that the terminal is in the project folder and that the network can reach the npm registry. Review the complete npm error before changing package versions; the reviewed Screenshot Machine materials do not specify a required Node.js version.
The command screenshotmachine is not found
This is expected if you installed the documented package as a dependency: the vendor materials show library usage, not a named CLI executable. Use it from Node.js code or call the HTTP API instead.

The API does not return the expected image
Check that the customer key and target URL are present and correctly encoded, then verify the selected API parameters against Screenshot Machine’s API guide. The reviewed material establishes the required key and URL but does not document a specific error code or remedy for every failure.
