Short answer: ScreenshotMachine’s “CLI” workflow is a command-line curl request to its hosted PDF API; it does not render the page on your machine. wkhtmltoimage renders HTML to an image, not a PDF. Use ScreenshotMachine’s hosted PDF API from the command line
The documented workflow sends an HTTP GET request to ScreenshotMachine’s PDF endpoint, supplies the target URL and API key as query parameters, and writes the returned file to disk. wkhtmltoimage --format png https://example.com page.pngIts manual documents controls for image format and quality, width and height, crop coordinates, JavaScript, delay, cookies and cookie jars, custom headers, proxy, authentication, local-file access, stylesheet injection, and waiting for a window-status condition. Exact behavior can depend on the installed package or build; consult that build’s help and test it with the pages you need to capture. For PDF output, use the sibling wkhtmltopdf program instead.

- Capture the pages your workflow will actually process, not only a static sample.
- Check image and PDF output separately, including fonts, long pages, page breaks, and content revealed after JavaScript runs.
- For hosted calls, test key handling, network failures, response validation, and output-file checks in your shell workflow.
- For local deployments, test the installed binary in the same operating system and package environment used in production.
Troubleshooting common failures
The ScreenshotMachine request does not return a usable PDF
