In India, AWS documents UPI as a payment option, and its Console may let you scan a checkout QR code with PhonePe. Availability depends on the AWS payment flow shown for your account. YouTube Live itself does not require a cloud server: you can stream with an encoder on your own computer, a webcam, or a mobile device. If you choose a cloud server, you still need to configure an encoder or relay separately.
Can you pay for an AWS cloud server with PhonePe?
AWS has documented UPI payment options for customers in India. Its April 2026 Scan and Pay announcement describes scanning a QR code displayed in the AWS Console using a UPI app such as PhonePe. AWS also announced UPI invoice payments in 2024. These are distinct flows; neither guarantees that UPI will appear for every account, purchase, or billing arrangement. Check the payment options shown in your own AWS Console before proceeding. AWS’s April 2026 Scan and Pay announcement and AWS’s 2024 invoice-payment announcement describe the respective options.

Pay through the AWS Console using PhonePe UPI
- Sign in to the AWS Console and proceed to the payment step for the AWS service or invoice you intend to pay. Confirm that the billing country and account details are correct.
- If the checkout screen offers UPI, select it. AWS’s April 2026 Scan and Pay flow displays a QR code; open PhonePe, use its QR scanner, and scan the code shown in the AWS Console.
- Review the payment details in PhonePe and authorize the transaction using the requested bank-account authentication, such as your UPI PIN.
- Return to the AWS Console and confirm that it reports the payment as complete. Keep the confirmation for your records.
The exact labels and availability can vary, so follow the options actually displayed at checkout rather than expecting a particular sequence. AWS’s QR Scan and Pay flow is not the same as a merchant collect request.

If the merchant sends a PhonePe collect request
If a checkout offers PhonePe and sends a collect request instead of presenting an AWS QR code, PhonePe’s help instructions say to log in, choose the bank account to use, open the app notification for the merchant request, approve it, and enter the UPI PIN. This is a general PhonePe merchant flow, not a required step in AWS’s QR flow. See PhonePe Help.
If you are paying an AWS invoice
AWS’s 2024 announcement describes UPI invoice payments through a request sent to an app associated with the customer’s UPI ID, with PhonePe among the example apps. That invoice-request route should not be treated as an additional step in the Console QR checkout; use the route AWS offers for the specific payment. AWS’s invoice-payment announcement explains that option.

Do you need a cloud server to stream on YouTube Live?
No. YouTube documents encoder, webcam, and mobile streaming routes. A cloud server is optional: it may host a separately configured encoder or relay, but YouTube’s setup instructions do not require a server or prescribe cloud-server software or instance size. For a simple stream, use a supported route that fits your equipment and connection rather than renting a server by default. YouTube’s overview of live streaming describes the available routes.
Set up an encoder stream, with or without a cloud server
- Enable live streaming. Use a verified YouTube channel with live streaming enabled. If you are new to live streaming, enable it and allow time for YouTube’s activation process before your event. YouTube recommends configuring an encoder ahead of time and testing the stream. YouTube’s live-streaming help covers eligibility and setup.
- Create or select a stream in YouTube Studio. Open the Live Control Room and create a stream or select the one you intend to use. Copy the YouTube server URL and stream key into your encoder’s streaming settings. YouTube Help describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Keep the key private; anyone with it may be able to send video to your stream. YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings.
- Configure the encoder and connection. Set the encoder to send to YouTube’s server URL using the stream key. YouTube recommends RTMPS, a secure extension to RTMP. Choose a resolution, frame rate, codec, and bitrate that your upload connection can sustain; leave network headroom and test rather than assuming a server’s advertised capacity guarantees a stable stream. YouTube Help: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
- Check the preview before going live. Start sending from the encoder, then verify that the video and audio appear correctly in Live Control Room. Test the stream and monitor quality before sharing it with viewers. If using a cloud server, the server must be configured to run the encoder or relay and reach YouTube reliably; merely paying for a server does not create a stream.
- End the broadcast deliberately. Stop the stream in the encoder and confirm the end in Live Control Room. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not rely on that archive behavior for longer streams. YouTube Help: Create a live stream with an encoder.
Bitrate examples from YouTube’s recommendations
YouTube’s settings guidance lists H.264 recommendations of 14 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 8 Mbps for 720p at 30 fps. These are YouTube recommendations, not guarantees for a particular server, encoder, or network. Match the bitrate to the connection available at the encoder and test the complete path. Choose a server only after you know what it must do
Before paying for cloud capacity, decide whether the server will encode video or only relay an already encoded stream. Encoding and relaying are different workloads; the appropriate compute and network capacity depend on the source, output settings, and stream configuration. The cited AWS and YouTube guidance does not establish a suitable AWS instance size for an unspecified YouTube Live stream, so there is no single server size to recommend here.
- Confirm whether the payment flow for your country and account offers UPI, and whether billing is prepaid, recurring, or invoice-based.
- Specify whether the server must encode, relay, or perform both jobs.
- Estimate the target resolution, frame rate, codec, and bitrate, then check that the server’s network and compute capacity fit those settings.
- Test the actual stream path in Live Control Room before relying on it for an event.
Common payment and streaming problems
UPI or PhonePe is not shown in AWS checkout
Payment options can vary by account and billing scenario. Do not assume the option is available simply because AWS has documented an India UPI route. Use another payment method displayed by AWS or check AWS billing support for the options available to your account.

The QR code or payment request cannot be approved
For a QR flow, verify that you scanned the code displayed in the AWS Console and review the payment request in PhonePe before authorizing it. For a collect request, check the app notification, select the intended bank account, and approve the request with your UPI PIN. Merchant and participant limits may affect a transaction; check the message in PhonePe or contact the relevant payment provider.
The encoder is connected but YouTube shows no preview
Check that the encoder is using the correct YouTube server URL and current stream key, then confirm that it is actively sending data. Recheck the selected stream in Live Control Room and test before going live. Treat the stream key as a credential and replace it if it has been exposed.

The stream buffers, drops, or has poor audio or video
Compare the encoder bitrate with the upload capacity where the encoder runs. Reduce the bitrate or output quality if the connection cannot sustain it, leave headroom, and test again. For a cloud-hosted encoder, check both the server’s resources and its network path; a successful payment alone says nothing about whether the configured server can sustain the stream.
