Use a separate OBS Scene Collection for each channel’s scenes, media, overlays, and audio sources; use a separate OBS Profile when the channel’s YouTube account or output settings differ. A collection and profile organize switching between channel setups—they do not, by themselves, create independent simultaneous broadcasts.
Choose the right OBS setup for your channels
First decide whether you need to switch between channel configurations over time or keep distinct broadcasts live at the same time. OBS Scene Collections and Profiles help organize configurations. They are not a documented method for producing concurrent independent outputs.

OBS puts the distinction plainly: “Profiles do NOT store your Scenes — use Scene Collections.” Make a collection for each meaningfully different channel layout, and add a profile only when its stream/account, video, or output configuration needs to differ.

- Create or duplicate a Scene Collection. In OBS, open the Scene Collection menu and create or duplicate a collection for the channel. Give it a clear name, such as
Channel – ambient looporChannel – study loop, so it is easy to identify when switching. - Add the loop scene and video. In that collection, create or select a scene. In Sources, add a Media Source, select the local video file, and enable Loop. The Media Source’s Loop property repeats the file after playback completes; its documented default is Off. OBS lists MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM among supported video types. OBS Media Sources
- Use VLC Video for a playlist. If the channel should rotate several files, add a VLC Video source and configure its playlist, loop, and shuffle controls. VLC must be installed; OBS requires 64-bit VLC when using 64-bit OBS. Check the transition at the end of a clip before relying on a playlist for a long broadcast.
- Create or select a Profile if needed. If this channel uses a different YouTube account or different video/output settings, choose or create a matching Profile and name it clearly. Profiles and Scene Collections can be mixed and matched: selecting one does not automatically select its counterpart.
- Connect the intended YouTube broadcast. In the channel’s YouTube Studio Live Control Room, create or schedule a broadcast, or select an existing one. Enter that broadcast’s server URL and stream key in the matching OBS stream configuration. - Verify before going live. Confirm the active Scene Collection, Profile, destination broadcast, and stream key. Check the Live Control Room preview and monitor picture and sound. Switch between channel setups safely
When changing channels, treat the Scene Collection, Profile, and YouTube broadcast as separate selections. Before starting a stream, verify all three rather than assuming that changing the collection also changed the account or destination. This is particularly important when two channels use similar loop videos or layouts: a correct scene can still be paired with the wrong stream settings.

- Use distinct names for each collection and any channel-specific profile.
- Confirm which YouTube channel and broadcast are selected in the Live Control Room.
- Keep stream keys out of public notes, screenshots, titles, and other exposed places.
- Check the preview and audio before starting the broadcast.
If you need two channels live at the same time
Separate collections and profiles make switching easier, but they do not establish that one OBS setup can send separate simultaneous broadcasts. YouTube’s current help page lists limits of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key; both limits apply. Those platform limits do not explain how to configure independent OBS outputs or whether a particular computer and network can handle them. Validate the multi-output design and capacity separately before relying on it. YouTube live streaming
Check YouTube eligibility, copyright, and monetization
Eligibility to go live
YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the prior 90 days. Its general eligibility guidance says users under 16 cannot live stream independently and describes adult-presence rules. Check YouTube’s current instructions if age requirements apply to your channel. A restricted channel cannot use another channel to get around the restriction. Rights to the looped material
Looping is a playback feature, not permission to rebroadcast someone else’s work. Use material you created or have the necessary rights to stream, and consider the rights in music, footage, artwork, and other included elements.
Monetization is a separate review
YouTube’s policy update dated July 15, 2025 renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content” and clarified that repetitive or mass-produced content is ineligible under the existing standard. The policy says content should offer material variation and creative, educational, or other value, and that “video” includes live streams. A loop that plays correctly is not, by that fact alone, approved for monetization; originality, variation, rights, and channel-wide review matter. YouTube channel monetization policies

Troubleshoot common setup problems
