Use Multi window to show two apps at once in split-screen, open an app in a floating pop-up window, or save a frequently used combination as an app pair. The options you see depend on your Galaxy model, software version, and the apps involved.
What MultiStar does—and what Multi window does
MultiStar enhances Samsung’s Multi window experience; it does not replace the basic split-screen and pop-up tools built into Galaxy devices. Samsung describes the module as providing “enhanced multi-window functionality.” Its controls are accessed through Good Lock, and the menu has changed across One UI versions. Check the current MultiStar listing in Galaxy Store for the release and compatibility information shown for your device.

Samsung’s overview describes MultiStar options such as keeping multiple apps active without pausing, resizing windows to fit the screen, and reducing blur in split-screen on One UI 4 or later. The exact controls and labels can vary by software version. Samsung’s Good Lock overview also cautions that features and settings may vary by device and software.
Choose the right view for your task

These are ways to arrange apps, not guarantees that every app will work in every view. Samsung notes that some apps do not support split-screen.

Open two apps in split-screen or pop-up view
You can launch Multi window from the Edge panel’s app tray or from Recents. Samsung’s menu names and available actions may differ across devices and software versions. Its Galaxy Multi window and App pairs guide shows the current routes and device-specific instructions.
Start from the Edge panel
- If the Edge panel is unavailable, open Settings and find the Edge panels control; its location and label can vary by One UI version. Turn it on, then open the panel from the edge of the screen.
- Open the panel’s app tray. Drag the first app to the screen to start it in the available multi-window view.
- Drag a second app to the placement area offered by your device. On a Fold, Samsung documents dragging toward the left, right, top, or bottom. On Flip and non-foldable devices, the documented split-screen placement is toward the top or bottom. Drop near the center for pop-up view where supported.
Start from Recents
- Open Recents using your device’s navigation gesture or button.
- Tap the app icon above the app preview.
- Choose the offered split-screen or pop-up view option, then select the other app if you chose split-screen.
If an option is missing, the app, device, or current software may not support that arrangement. Check the choices shown on your Galaxy rather than assuming every app or model has the same menu.

Resize panes and save an app pair
Adjust split-screen
Drag the divider between the two panes to give more screen space to either app. The available layout depends on the screen and model.
Save the combination
- With both apps open in split-screen, tap the divider between them.
- Choose the add-to-app-pair control. The label may vary by software.
- Select the location where you want the pair saved, from the choices shown on your device.
After saving, use that location to reopen the same two apps together. If the add-to-app-pair option is absent, verify that both apps are in split-screen and check your device’s available controls.

The listing also notes that some devices may not be supported.
