How to Use HTML.to.design to Copy a Website into Figma for a Client Project

Use html.to.design’s Figma plugin for public URLs and its browser extension for logged-in or private pages, then review the editable layers before client use.

For a public webpage, open the html.to.design Figma plugin, enter the page URL, choose a viewport and theme, review the import options, and import it. For a logged-in or private page, capture it with the companion browser extension from a browser session that can access it, then transfer the capture to the plugin or import a local .h2d file. Either way, treat the editable Figma result as a starting point: check it against the site and refine it before sharing it with a client.

Choose URL import or browser capture

html.to.design is a Figma plugin paired with a browser extension. Its official overview describes the tools as converting website content into editable Figma designs: html.to.design overview.

Method Best for Access and page state Handoff
Plugin URL import A public webpage you can reach by URL Choose a viewport and theme in the plugin; use this when you do not need a signed-in browser session Import directly through the plugin
Browser-extension capture A page behind a login or VPN, a specific session state, or a capture where banner removal matters Capture the page visible in a browser where you have access; the extension supports a full page or a selected area Send it to the plugin or save a local .h2d file

The vendor’s extension guide identifies private and local sites, logged-in pages, session states, and banner removal as reasons to capture with the extension instead of relying on URL import: browser-extension guide. Use only access and materials authorized for your client work and consistent with applicable agreements; the import instructions do not settle rights for any particular website.

Import a public website by URL

  1. Open the html.to.design plugin in Figma.
  2. Paste the public page URL into the plugin.
  3. Select the viewport and theme that match the design question you are investigating. For example, use the target device width if you are reviewing a mobile redesign.
  4. Review the available import options, then start the import.
  5. Inspect the resulting layers in Figma and refine what the client needs: typography, spacing, image assets, content, and any responsive variants relevant to the project.

The overview also describes importing multiple pages in bulk, but the plan page lists bulk imports as a Pro feature. Check current plan terms if you need that workflow rather than assuming it is included in every tier.

Capture a logged-in or private page

  1. Open the page in the browser profile or network where you are already authorized to view it. This can include a signed-in session or a private/local site reachable through your VPN.
  2. Launch the html.to.design browser extension and capture the full page or the specific selection you need.
  3. Choose a handoff method: transfer the capture directly to the Figma plugin, or download it as a .h2d file.
  4. For direct transfer, open the plugin in Figma. If the capture does not appear automatically, check the plugin’s Extension tab.
  5. For a local handoff, drop the downloaded .h2d file into the plugin.
  6. Choose import settings and map any missing fonts if prompted, then review the layers against the page in the browser.

The private-page instructions explain this workflow and state that a downloaded .h2d capture stays on the local computer and does not reach html.to.design’s servers. That is the vendor’s description of its handling, not an independent security audit: private webpage import guide.

Review the Figma result before using it with a client

An import gives you editable material to work from; it does not establish that every detail is faithful or that the result is a finished redesign. Compare the capture with the intended page and adjust it for the purpose of the project.

  • Typography: check font availability, weights, line wrapping, and any mappings needed for missing fonts.
  • Spacing and hierarchy: inspect alignment, margins, padding, and the visual order of sections.
  • Assets and content: verify images, icons, and text rather than assuming every asset or text state transferred as intended.
  • Responsive scope: check the viewport you selected and capture other relevant variants when the client question involves more than one screen size.
  • State and context: confirm that the page state you imported—such as signed-in content or a dismissed banner—is the one you mean to discuss.

Choose a plan for the project volume

The official plan page currently lists these terms; quotas and prices can change, so verify them on the html.to.design Pro plan page before budgeting a project.

Plan Listed price and allowance Relevant listed features
Free $0; up to 10 imports every 30 days Useful for a small number of page imports
Pro $12 per user/month billed annually, or $18 per user/month billed monthly Unlimited imports subject to fair use, high-resolution images, bulk imports, and a re-import shortcut; the page says fair use caps typical individual use at 1,000 imports per month

For a one-off audit or a small set of pages, compare your needs with the Free allowance. For a larger page set, higher-resolution output, bulk imports, or the re-import shortcut, assess Pro against the listed terms and your expected usage.

Troubleshoot common import problems

The URL import cannot reach the page

Check whether the page requires a login, VPN, or an existing browser session. If so, open it in the browser where you can access it and use the extension capture workflow instead.

The browser capture is missing from the plugin

Open the Figma plugin and check its Extension tab. If transfer remains inconvenient, save the capture locally as a .h2d file and drop it into the plugin.

Fonts do not match

Use the plugin’s font-mapping option when a font is missing, then inspect line breaks and layout because changing typefaces can alter text dimensions.

The import is not ready to present

Compare it with the live page and refine typography, spacing, assets, content, and relevant viewport variants. Editable layers are a basis for design work, not a guarantee of a polished or approved client deliverable.

For a clean image capture of a public page, ScreenshotNeo offers a one-request screenshot API. It is not a Figma importer and does not replace the editable-layer workflow above; it is an alternative when a screenshot file is what you need.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are not billed. It also provides an MCP server for AI agents, and the free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Learn about ScreenshotNeo.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I import more than one page at a time?

The overview describes bulk importing, and the current plan page lists bulk imports as a Pro feature. Check the live plan terms for the current availability.

Can I use a browser capture without transferring it directly to Figma?

Yes. The extension can save a capture as a local .h2d file, which you can drop into the plugin.
