On supported Pixel Pro phones, open the Camera app’s settings and select the Pro tab to adjust focus, shutter speed and ISO. Tap your subject to focus, then use shutter speed and ISO to balance motion and brightness. For dim scenes, keep the phone steady: settings cannot compensate for camera shake.
Check whether your Pixel has Pro Controls
Google’s current Pixel Camera Help page lists Pro Controls for the Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL. The eligible-model list can change, so check Google’s Pixel Camera Help page and the labels in your Camera app if your model or app release differs.

On a supported phone, open Camera, open its settings and select the Pro tab. Google identifies focus, shutter speed and ISO as the adjustable controls there; the exact navigation or labels may vary with app updates.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteSet focus on the subject
Frame the shot and tap the subject in the viewfinder. Google says a white circle appears and follows the subject. Where focus/exposure lock is available, it can help hold the setting on a moving subject.

If the photo is soft, first check that the intended subject—not the background—was in focus. A shutter adjustment cannot fix missed focus.
Choose shutter speed for motion and light
Shutter speed controls how long the camera records light. A shorter exposure can reduce blur from a moving subject, but it lets in less light. A longer exposure can help in dim conditions, but movement by the subject or the phone is more likely to blur the image.
There is no universal shutter-speed number for sharper Pixel photos in Google’s guidance. Make small scene-specific adjustments, take a shot, and review it. For a moving person or pet, favor a faster shutter when the light allows; for a stationary subject, a slower shutter may work if the phone is held very steady.

- Google Pixel 7 featuring a refined aluminum camera housing, offering enhanced durability and a premium finish while complementing the updated camera bar for a more polished overall appearance.
Use ISO to balance brightness
ISO affects how bright the image appears. Raising it can help when a faster shutter would otherwise make the photo too dark, but higher ISO can also make the image noisier. ISO is an exposure control, not a sharpening setting.
Adjust it only as much as needed for the exposure, then inspect the result at normal size and enlarged. If detail looks smeared, consider whether the subject moved, the phone shook, or focus landed elsewhere before raising ISO further.
Keep the phone steady in low light
In dim conditions, phone movement is a common source of blur, especially with longer exposures. Google advises keeping the phone still for night photography. For manual astrophotography, its instructions describe setting a five-second timer and placing the phone on a steady surface. See Google’s low-light and night photography guidance.

- A timer helps avoid shaking the phone when you press the shutter; Google’s cited steps do not require a remote shutter.
- If the subject itself is moving, stabilizing the phone will not freeze that motion; a faster shutter may help when available light permits.
Know when close-up softness is expected
Close-up photos can have blurred areas because larger sensors on Pro phones naturally produce a shallower depth of field. If a document or nearby object is not uniformly sharp, try Macro Focus where supported. For document capture, Google also suggests moving back and using 2x. See the supported camera features and capture guidance.

When 50 MP helps—and when it does not
Google documents 50 MP capture on selected Pro phones, including Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL. This is a resolution option, not a remedy for missed focus or camera shake. Google’s published 50 MP model list is broader than the Pro Controls list, so do not assume that support for one feature means support for the other. Check the current Camera app and Google’s feature information for your phone.
