To give one webcam a different look in different OBS scenes, add the camera once to a reusable base scene, add that scene to each destination scene, and apply filters to each nested scene instance. This keeps the camera capture shared while letting each scene have its own treatment.
Why filters on a shared webcam can affect every scene
OBS lets you add filters to a source or to a scene. A filter attached directly to a webcam source changes that source’s treatment wherever the shared source is used. To keep different looks independent, put the camera in a base scene and apply each look to the base scene’s instance inside a destination scene. Create the base scene
In OBS, create a scene for the camera, then add your webcam once as a Video Capture Source. Set its framing and any adjustments that should remain the same in every scene. Leave off effects that should vary between destinations.

Add the base scene to each destination
Open a destination scene, add a source, and choose the existing camera scene as a Scene source. Repeat in each destination scene that needs the webcam. This reuses the camera scene rather than creating another capture source for the same physical webcam.

Filter each scene instance
In the destination scene’s Sources list, right-click the nested camera scene and open Filters. Add the effect you want for that particular destination. Repeat on the nested camera scene in other destinations, choosing a different treatment each time. Name the versions clearly
Use destination names that identify the look, such as “Camera – neutral” and “Camera – keyed.” This makes it easier to select the intended scene during a production.

Choose a filter for each look
OBS’s built-in effect filters include options for color, keying, cropping, masking, scaling and movement. Add only the effect needed for each scene; do not put a treatment in the base scene if it should not carry through to every instance.

- Color Correction: adjust the webcam’s color for a particular scene.
- Chroma Key or Color Key: remove a suitable background color.
- Crop/Pad: show a different portion of the camera image.
- Image Mask/Blend: shape or blend the image with a mask.
- Scaling/Aspect Ratio, Scroll, or Sharpen: alter presentation or detail where appropriate.

Use the result in a video-call app
If a call app accepts webcam video, OBS Virtual Camera can send it the OBS output. Start Virtual Camera in OBS, then select OBS Virtual Camera as the camera in the other app. Choose its output mode according to what you want that app to receive:

- Program: the regular OBS output.
- Preview: the Studio Mode preview, useful when you deliberately want to send the preview rather than the live program.
- Scene or Source: a chosen scene or source, fixed to that selection.
Check the selected mode before joining a call; Preview and Program can show different content when Studio Mode is in use. Refer to the OBS Virtual Camera Guide for the available modes.
When a source-clone plugin is the better fit
If your workflow specifically requires separate filters attached to separate webcam sources, Elgato’s scene-collection guidance recommends the OBS Source Clone plugin. That introduces an external plugin dependency, so check its current listing and compatibility with your OBS version before relying on it. Troubleshooting
- Changing a filter changes the camera everywhere: the filter may be on the shared webcam source or the base scene. Remove the scene-specific effect there and add it to the nested scene instance inside the destination scene.
- The destination scene has no camera: confirm that it contains the base camera scene as a Scene source and that the webcam source is present in the base scene.
- The call app shows the wrong OBS content: check Virtual Camera’s output mode. Program, Preview, and a selected Scene or Source do not necessarily show the same output.
- A plugin workflow does not work after an OBS change: verify the plugin’s current compatibility with the installed OBS version, or use the native nested-scene method if it meets the need.
