A YouTube Premiere is a scheduled event for one uploaded video, and a playlist is an organized set of videos whose playback depends on viewers’ settings. Neither is a dependable way to broadcast continuously around the clock. Use Premieres and playlists for releases, not continuity
When a Premiere helps
Schedule a Premiere when you want to introduce one story at a set time and invite viewers to watch together. It can create anticipation around a new installment. Plan for the event to end; the video then remains available as an ordinary upload.

When a playlist helps
Use a playlist to put stories in a useful order—such as a series sequence or themed collection—so viewers can browse and choose what to watch. Autoplay may carry an individual viewer from one video to another, but it is not a broadcast control: the viewer can turn it off, and playback may stop.
For an always-on channel, use a real live-stream workflow
A live stream is the appropriate YouTube format when the aim is a continuous broadcast. It is a real-time broadcast, not simply a playlist presented as if it were live. Make an operational plan for starting and monitoring the stream, what happens if it disconnects, and how viewers can find the recorded stories afterward. Do not promise uninterrupted uptime merely because a playlist is playing or a live stream has started.

If your plan is to broadcast prerecorded stories, make sure you have the rights to the narration, music, images, and other material. YouTube’s policies on copyright and monetization still apply to a live presentation; choosing Live, Premiere, or playlist does not itself establish permission or guarantee monetization.
Set children’s audience settings accurately
YouTube makes creators responsible for identifying whether content is made for kids. Stories, characters, activities, games, and songs that reflect an intent to target children are likely to be made for kids. Made-for-kids designation limits data collection and disables or restricts features. YouTube lists restrictions including comments, notifications, personalized advertising, live chat, and saving a video to a playlist; the full set can vary depending on whether the designation applies to a channel or an individual video. YouTube does not serve personalized ads on kids content, which may reduce revenue. Do not build a children’s channel plan around comments, notifications, personalized ads, or viewers saving videos to playlists. Make a story series meaningfully original
Monetization is a separate question from format. YouTube’s channel monetization policy expects original, authentic material and says repetitive or mass-produced content may be ineligible. Reviewers may consider the channel’s main theme, most-viewed and newest videos, largest share of watch time, metadata, and About section; reused-content review applies at channel level. A repeated storytelling format is not automatically disqualifying when installments have distinct storylines, focus, or concepts. Near-identical templated videos with little variation or added value carry greater monetization risk. YouTube’s channel monetization policies reflect a July 15, 2025 update that renamed “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content” and clarified that repetitive or mass-produced content is included.

Premiere advertising is not a monetization guarantee
For eligible channels, ads can be enabled on a Premiere: pre-roll ads may run during the event, while mid-roll and post-roll ads are unavailable during it. Afterward, the uploaded video’s ad defaults apply. Made-for-kids designation still affects advertising, including the absence of personalized ads.
