How do I resize one design for multiple social media sizes?
Choose the sizes that match the placements where you plan to use the design—for example, a square post and a vertical story—and resize to each destination. Suggested formats can speed up selection when they match your needs; custom dimensions provide more control when you have exact platform or campaign specifications.
Canva also documents bulk resizing, with limits that make it useful to plan the batch before starting. The Help Centre lists these current limits; it does not display a publication date, so check the live page if your workflow depends on them.
Rank #4
- Up to 50 designs in one resize batch.
- Up to five new sizes per design.
- Up to 250 resized outputs in a bulk action.
Custom dimensions must be at least 40 × 40 px and no larger than 8000 × 3125 px, according to Canva’s Help Centre. For a large campaign, split the work into batches that stay within the published limits, then check each output at its intended size.
Suggested sizes or custom dimensions?
Use a suggested size when it corresponds to the channel and placement you need. Choose custom dimensions when a brief, template, or publishing requirement specifies exact width and height. Either way, verify the final canvas dimensions and inspect the layout rather than assuming a correctly sized canvas guarantees a correctly composed design.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Can I resize a Canva design without changing the original?
Yes. Choose Copy & resize to create a resized copy and leave the original design in place. Choose Resize this design when you want the current design itself to take on the new dimensions. If preserving the original matters, use the copy option before making changes.
Why can’t I find Magic Resize in Canva Docs?
Canva’s Help Centre says Magic Resize is not supported in Canva Docs. It points to Magic Switch as a way to transform a Doc into a presentation, but that changes the output format; it is not a direct resize of a Doc to new dimensions.
If you do not see the resize option in another design, check the file type, your account’s plan, and your role. Canva lists plan categories and roles that may be eligible, but availability can depend on account and design context. Confirm access in your current Canva account and consult the Help Centre eligibility and workflow details.
What is the difference between Magic Resize and the rest of Magic Switch?
Magic Resize addresses a specific task: adapting a design to new dimensions. Canva presents it within an upgraded Magic Switch workflow, which also advertises transformations such as converting a design into another document type and translating it. Those broader options can help repurpose content, but they are not additional resize settings. For Canva’s announcement of the broader Magic Studio context, see Introducing Magic Studio.
How does Canva count Magic Resize use?
Canva’s Help Centre states that each use of Magic Resize counts against the monthly AI usage limit. Check your current account’s usage information if you need to plan frequent resizing; the applicable allowance can depend on your account and may change.
