Change the pointer speed in Settings: Windows 11 uses Mouse pointer speed under Bluetooth & devices > Mouse; Windows 10 uses Cursor speed under Devices > Mouse. Move the slider until the pointer feels right for your mouse and workspace.
Change pointer speed in Windows 11
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices > Mouse.
- Move the Mouse pointer speed slider. Microsoft does not prescribe a single ideal position; choose one that suits your setup. Microsoft’s mouse settings instructions document this path.
Change pointer speed in Windows 10
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Devices > Mouse.
- Move the Cursor speed slider to adjust how quickly the pointer moves. The Windows 10 navigation and slider label differ from Windows 11. Microsoft documents both versions’ steps.
If the slider does not address the problem
Pointer feels inaccurate during slow movements
Enhance pointer precision is separate from the speed slider. Microsoft describes it as making the pointer more accurate when the mouse is moving slowly. Try the setting to see whether it suits your use; it is not a universally better choice. Microsoft explains the option.

Pointer is hard to see or you want different pointer behavior
Pointer size and color are appearance controls, not speed controls. For additional legacy options, open the Mouse Properties dialog: in Windows 11, choose Additional mouse settings under Related settings; in Windows 10, choose Additional mouse options. Then open the Pointer Options tab for settings such as pointer trails. The Microsoft instructions cover these controls.

You are moving the pointer with the number pad
Mouse Keys controls pointer movement using the numeric keypad, so its speed controls are separate from the physical mouse slider. In Windows 11, find them at Settings > Accessibility > Mouse > Mouse keys speed. See Microsoft’s Mouse Keys instructions.

When the setting labels do not match
Check whether your PC runs Windows 10 or Windows 11: the Settings path and slider label differ. Interface wording can also vary between builds. Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025; Microsoft says it no longer provides free software updates through Windows Update, technical assistance, or security fixes for Windows 10 after that date, though the PC continues to work. Microsoft’s support notice explains the change.
