Use an Apify Actor that accepts a page URL, choose an image or PDF output, enable full-page capture if the whole scrollable page matters, and run it. Then download the result and preserve it with its source URL, capture time, status, and other available metadata. A screenshot records a rendered view at one moment; by itself, it does not establish legal admissibility, authenticity, or completeness.
Capture a web page with an Apify screenshot Actor
- Choose an Actor. Select an Apify Actor that accepts page URLs and produces the artifact you need. Actors are packaged tools that can be run and shared on Apify; inputs and outputs vary by Actor. See Apify Store.
- Enter the public page URL. Submit an HTTP or HTTPS URL. For multiple pages, choose an Actor whose input supports a list of URLs; batch capture is not a universal feature.
- Set the output. Choose an image format or PDF where available. Enable full-page capture if content below the visible viewport is relevant. Check the selected Actor’s input documentation for its precise field names and options.
- Run the Actor and inspect the result. Check each requested URL’s status and any error details. A blocked or failed page is not a successful capture; retain its status rather than describing it as captured.
- Download and preserve the artifact. Save the image or PDF somewhere with retention appropriate to your needs. The reviewed screenshot Actor documentation says unnamed run storage is removed according to the applicable plan retention period, so do not assume a run result will remain available indefinitely.
Apify’s Actor FAQ addresses both “Can I take full-page screenshots of many URLs at once?” and “How do I convert a URL to PDF?” The answers depend on the Actor: confirm that its input accepts multiple URLs and that it supports PDF output rather than assuming those options are available across the platform. Preserve context with the screenshot
Store the artifact with a record of how it was produced. The reviewed screenshot Actor documents fields that can include the stored-file link, final URL, HTTP status, page title, capture timestamp, dimensions, device and viewport information, and whether the image was full-page or truncated. Actor outputs differ, so record only fields that the Actor actually supplies and label anything you add yourself.
- Original URL submitted and final URL, if available.
- Capture time, page title, and HTTP status.
- Output format, dimensions, viewport or device details, and whether the capture was full-page or truncated.
- The artifact itself, plus any error or status information.
- Any adjustments or limitations that could affect what the image shows.
Keep the downloaded file and its context together in storage you control. A link to a temporary run artifact is not a substitute for retaining the file if you need it later.

What an Apify screenshot archive can—and cannot—show
A screenshot is a visual record of a particular rendered state. A PDF made from a web page is also a static output; neither is a replayable copy of every resource, script, or interaction on the page. A separate, community-maintained Web Evidence Pack Actor documents a broader bundle that can include a PDF, full-page PNG, visible text, optional rendered HTML, final URL, status, title, timestamp, and SHA-256 fingerprint. Those are features of that particular Actor, not a platform-wide guarantee. See Web Evidence Pack Actor documentation.
A timestamp or hash can help with reproducibility and change detection, but should not be represented as independent proof of who published the page, what it showed at an earlier time, or whether a court will accept it. The Web Evidence Pack documentation states: “A timestamp and hash help establish a reproducible record, but they are not a qualified timestamp or a guarantee of legal admissibility.”

Automated browser capture can differ from what a person sees locally. Sites may block automation; the reviewed screenshot Actor does not log in, solve CAPTCHAs, or bypass bot protection, and a request may fail or return a block page. One marketplace Actor’s documentation says its full-page screenshots are capped at 16,384 pixels in height. That limit is Actor-specific and may change; check the chosen Actor’s current documentation before relying on a very tall capture. See tidytools screenshot Actor documentation.

When a screenshot is not enough
If your process requires a broader preservation record, compare the required artifacts and collection metadata before choosing a tool. An ABI industry review describes Pagefreezer WebPreserver exports including image PDF, searchable PDF (OCR), WARC, MHTML, and JPEG, plus a collection report listing capture information. That review makes it a possible fit for specialized evidence workflows, not a necessary add-on for every screenshot.
