To capture a webpage with a particular Accept-Language header, have your AI agent configure a Playwright page’s extra HTTP headers before navigating, then save the page with page.screenshot(). If you want the browser to behave as though it uses a particular locale—not just send a chosen header string—set the Playwright browser context’s locale instead. These controls are related but not identical, and neither guarantees that a site will display a particular language.
Choose between a browser locale and an exact language header
First decide what you need the screenshot to represent:

- Use a context locale when you want browser locale emulation. Playwright documents that the locale affects
navigator.language, theAccept-Languagerequest header, and number and date formatting. - Set an extra HTTP header when the task requires a literal
Accept-Languagevalue, such asfr-FR,fr;q=0.9. This adds the header to requests initiated by the page; it does not, by itself, change all browser locale behavior.
A language preference is a request to the site, not a command that overrides its language selector, cookies, URL, account settings, or content rules. Check the resulting screenshot if the rendered language matters.

This JavaScript example creates a fresh Chromium browser context using the French locale, navigates to the target, and captures the full scrollable page. Replace the URL and locale as needed.

Save the example as a JavaScript file and run it with node filename.js. The screenshot path determines where the PNG is written. Omit fullPage: true to capture only the current viewport.
Set an exact Accept-Language header instead
For a test that specifies the header value itself, configure page extra headers before the first navigation. The following sends the requested value on requests initiated by the page and saves the full page:

})();Change the header value to the exact string required by your test. Playwright documents that extra headers are sent with every request the page initiates, and that it does not guarantee the order of outgoing headers. Setting them before navigation ensures the initial page request is made after configuration.

Make the agent return a usable result
Give the agent the target URL, the requested locale or exact header value, whether you need the viewport or full page, and the output filename. Ask it to configure the browser before navigation, wait for a meaningful page condition if content loads asynchronously, save the image, and report the artifact path. For example:
Use Playwright to open https://example.com with the exact Accept-Language header
fr-FR,fr;q=0.9. Wait for the main content to appear, capture the full page as
page-fr.png, and tell me the saved file path. Do not claim the site rendered in
French unless the screenshot shows that.For asynchronous pages, replace a generic navigation wait with a condition tied to the page, such as await page.locator('main').waitFor() when the target has a reliable main-content element. A fixed delay can be used when necessary, but it may waste time or still finish before a slow page is ready. Playwright’s screenshot API also provides format, scale, masking, and animation options; use them when the output needs a specific image format or repeatable appearance.
Verify what the screenshot proves
A screenshot shows rendered pixels, not by itself which request header reached the server. Sites can select language using their own URL scheme, saved consent or language cookies, account preferences, or other rules. Redirects also create a chain of requests, and browser network-stack headers may not be fully visible through request interception. Do not treat an intercepted request’s partial header view as definitive proof of the final on-wire value. When correctness of the request matters, verify it separately using a method appropriate to the target environment, and inspect the captured page for the actual visual result.

Capturing the viewport is the default; fullPage: true requests a capture of the full scrollable page. Long pages with lazy-loaded images or dynamic content may need page-specific waiting before capture. For repeatable output, consider disabling animations or masking elements that change between runs.
Existing browsers and remote sessions
You do not need to connect to an existing browser for a straightforward screenshot; launching a Playwright-managed browser is simpler. Playwright also documents connectOverCDP() for Chromium-based browsers, but warns that the Chrome DevTools Protocol connection has significantly lower fidelity than Playwright’s own connection protocol. Treat that as an optional integration path, not the default for a screenshot that needs predictable browser behavior.
Troubleshoot common problems
The page still appears in the wrong language
The site may not honor Accept-Language, or it may prioritize a language-specific URL, cookie, account preference, or on-page selector. Inspect the screenshot and check the target site’s language behavior; sending the header does not guarantee translated content.

The first page load did not use the header
Set page.setExtraHTTPHeaders() before calling page.goto(). If using context locale emulation, create the context with locale before creating and navigating the page.
The capture is blank or incomplete
The page may need more than the initial DOM load to render its main content. Wait for a meaningful page-specific selector or condition before taking the screenshot. For content below the fold, enable fullPage: true; for lazy-loaded material, make sure the page has had a chance to load it before capture.

Check the path passed to page.screenshot() and the working directory from which the Node.js process was run. The path controls the output file location.

Header inspection disagrees with the screenshot
The visual result does not establish the final request header. Redirects and browser network-stack behavior can complicate interception-based inspection. Check the request behavior independently rather than inferring it from the rendered language or a partial intercepted request.

Keep the setup reliable and cost-aware
- Wait for the right signal. Use a page-specific readiness condition where possible rather than assuming navigation completion means all visible content is ready.
- Choose capture extent deliberately. Viewport captures are smaller and faster; full-page capture is appropriate when the complete scrollable document is needed.
- Separate visual checks from request checks. A screenshot can confirm what appeared on screen, but not conclusively prove the final header on the network.
- Reuse the browser only when it helps. For a one-off capture, a managed browser context keeps the locale setup explicit; connecting over CDP is optional and has the fidelity caveat described above.
