Do not exceed four seconds. Use RTMPS when your encoder supports it, and configure AAC or MP3 audio. Those are live-ingest settings; they are not the same as settings for exporting the lesson files.
Choose settings for the right stage
A prerecorded lesson passes through two distinct encoding stages: it may first be exported as a video file, then played into an encoder that sends a live feed to YouTube. YouTube publishes separate recommendations for each stage.

| Stage | 720p recommendation | What it applies to |
|---|---|---|
| Lesson file export | MP4 container, H.264 video, progressive scan, 5 Mbps for SDR at standard frame rates | The local or uploaded recording, not the live connection. YouTube recommended upload encoding settings. |
| Live H.264 ingest at 30 fps | 8 Mbps recommended; 3 Mbps minimum | The video bitrate sent from your encoder to YouTube Live. YouTube live encoder settings. |
For the live output, use 1280×720 at 30 fps when that matches the source material. YouTube’s live bitrate recommendations are organized by resolution and frame rate, so do not treat the 720p30 figures as universal for other frame rates.

Video codec and bitrate
For H.264 at 720p30, choose 8 Mbps if the connection and encoder can sustain it. YouTube lists 3 Mbps as the minimum, but a minimum is not the recommended target. The table specifies video ingest bitrate; allow extra network capacity for audio and other traffic, and test the actual connection.

- PC webcam, compatible with Windows7/8/11 or later, Chrome OS 29.0.1547 or later, MAC OS 10.6 or later, Android 5.0 or later, Linux 10.04 or later, It works with zoom, youtube, skype, facetime and more; you can widely use it for online teaching, video calling, recording, conferencing, Live Streaming
YouTube’s table also lists 6 Mbps recommended and 2 Mbps minimum for AV1 or H.265/HEVC at 720p30. Use those alternatives only if the encoder and the complete workflow support them reliably. A lower listed bitrate alone does not establish that a codec is the better choice for your setup.
Rate control, keyframes, and protocol
- Bitrate mode: CBR (constant bitrate).
- Keyframe interval: 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds.
- Connection: RTMP or RTMPS; YouTube recommends RTMPS.
These are YouTube’s published encoder recommendations, not a guarantee that a continuous stream will remain uninterrupted. For the complete current live encoder guidance, see YouTube’s settings and bitrate table.

Audio
YouTube supports AAC or MP3 audio over RTMP/RTMPS. Stereo AAC is a practical default when your encoder offers it; YouTube’s advanced settings list 128 Kbps stereo. Listen to the lesson feed before going live: a technically valid stream can still have silence, clipped speech, or an unsuitable audio level.
Build a continuous lesson playlist
The encoder carries the feed; your chosen playout software must arrange and repeat the recordings. Add lesson files in the intended order, enable playlist repeat or looping, and check what the software does at the end of a file and if a source or network connection is interrupted. YouTube’s cited setup guides explain how to send a stream, but do not prescribe a particular application or document a lesson-looping procedure. Verify playlist and recovery behavior in the software’s own current documentation before relying on it for a 24/7 channel.

Connect the encoder to YouTube Live
- Prepare your files. For SDR 720p recordings at standard frame rates, YouTube recommends MP4, H.264, progressive scan, and 5 Mbps for the upload file. Keep the source frame rate consistent with the intended live output where practical.
- Configure playout. Create the lesson sequence in your selected software and set its repeat behavior. Confirm that it continues across file boundaries rather than stopping after one lesson.
- Set live output. Choose 1280×720 at 30 fps for 720p30 lessons, then configure the live codec, bitrate, CBR, keyframe interval, protocol, and audio as described above.
- Open YouTube Studio / Live Control Room. Create or select the live stream, then enter the stream URL and stream key in your encoder. A stream key is a credential that lets the encoder send a feed to YouTube; treat it like a password and do not publish or share it. See Manage live stream settings.
- Preview and test. Start the encoder and check the YouTube preview, watch-page access, picture, and sound before depending on the stream. Test with representative motion and audio, not only a still opening frame.
- Monitor the live feed. Watch stream health and YouTube messages, and continuously check audio and video quality. YouTube recommends preparing well in advance and monitoring the stream; see its live streaming tips.
Plan for 24/7 operation
A 24/7 stream depends on more than the bitrate: the host, network, playout software, and encoder must keep producing and sending a feed. YouTube’s setup guidance does not promise continuous uptime or automatic reconnection for a particular encoder. Before committing a channel to a loop, test for long enough to expose file-boundary pauses, audio dropouts, connection loss, and whether the chosen software resumes without manual intervention.
Common problems and what to check
- YouTube reports an unstable or insufficient connection: confirm the configured video bitrate, then test upload capacity and provide headroom beyond the video bitrate for audio and other traffic.
- The picture freezes or breaks up: compare encoder output resolution and frame rate with the lesson source, verify that the host is not overloaded, and inspect YouTube’s stream-health messages.
- The stream stops after one lesson: check playlist repeat settings and end-of-file behavior in the playout software; this is not controlled by YouTube’s ingest bitrate settings.
- No sound or poor speech quality: verify the selected audio device, supported AAC or MP3 encoding, channel configuration, and levels; listen to the preview before relying on the stream.
- The encoder cannot connect: confirm the current stream URL and key in both YouTube Studio and the encoder. If the key has been changed or exposed, update the encoder with the correct key and keep it private.
- The feed does not recover after an interruption: check whether the playout software and encoder reconnect automatically, and test recovery by simulating a brief interruption before going 24/7.
Keep lesson rights and channel policies in view
Encoding settings do not grant permission to rebroadcast lesson material. Use recordings, music, images, and other included content that you own or are authorized to stream, and check the applicable rights before putting a lesson into a continuous public loop. A technically healthy stream also does not guarantee that a channel meets YouTube’s policies or monetization requirements; review the current terms and policies that apply to your channel.
