Inspect the image afterward: browser font-loading APIs do not prove that every glyph came from the intended typeface or rendered correctly.
Why Hindi screenshots need a font check
A page can finish navigating before a client-rendered application has displayed the Hindi content you want to capture. And even after that content appears, its font may still be loading. The order matters: wait for the relevant content first, then wait for fonts, then capture.

Hindi uses Devanagari characters and combinations. A font-loading promise can report that relevant loading and layout work has settled, but it does not inspect every character in the screenshot or certify that the intended font supplied every glyph. The screenshot itself remains the check for fallback characters, missing marks, or visibly incorrect shaping.
Prepare the page and capture it with Playwright
The example below uses Playwright’s JavaScript API. Replace the URL, selector, and font family with values for the page you are capturing. The selector should identify the final Hindi content—not merely a page shell that appears before the content is populated.

Install Playwright

Save this as capture-hindi.js. Set PAGE_URL to the page you want, CONTENT_SELECTOR to a selector for its final Hindi content, and FONT_FAMILY to the critical font’s CSS family name. If no particular font is required, remove the explicit document.fonts.load() call and keep the document.fonts.ready wait.

Replace it with representative text that covers the characters and combinations in the actual capture. A font face may use Unicode ranges, so the text passed to document.fonts.load() can affect which face resources are requested. A fulfilled promise still does not establish that each glyph is supported by that font.

What each wait establishes
page.goto()starts navigation;domcontentloadedis not proof that a client-rendered page has reached its final state.locator(...).waitFor({ state: 'visible' })waits for the selected content to become visible. Choose a selector or application-specific readiness check that corresponds to the content you intend to capture.document.fonts.load(font, text)requests matching font faces relevant to the supplied text. If a required face cannot load, handle the rejection or inspect the returned faces rather than silently treating the requested font as verified.document.fonts.readyresolves after fonts currently used by the document have finished loading and relevant layout operations have completed. It does not force every declared but unused face to load.

Choose the capture method for the job
One capture for inspection
Use page.screenshot() when you need a file to inspect or a one-off capture. The key correctness checks are that the intended content was visible before the font wait and that the resulting image actually shows the Hindi correctly.
Repeated visual comparisons
For screenshot tests, Playwright’s toHaveScreenshot() assertion waits for two consecutive screenshots to match before comparing. That helps reduce comparisons against transient visual changes; it does not validate font choice or glyph coverage. See Playwright’s PageAssertions documentation.

Playwright can also disable animations and hide the caret for screenshot assertions, which can reduce incidental differences. Those settings do not address font loading or Devanagari correctness.
Keep the rendering environment consistent
For meaningful visual comparisons, use the same browser and operating environment for the baseline and new capture. Playwright notes that rendering can vary with operating system, browser version, settings, hardware, power source, and headless mode; fonts and rendering may also differ across browser and platform combinations. Its guidance recommends separate snapshots for different browsers and platforms. See Playwright’s visual comparison guidance.
Troubleshoot missing or incorrect Hindi text
The capture shows the page before Hindi content appears
Cause: Navigation completed, but the app had not finished rendering or fetching the target content.
Fix: Wait for a locator that identifies the final Hindi content, or use an application-specific signal that means the content is ready. Do not use navigation completion alone as the capture condition.
The screenshot uses fallback glyphs or has malformed marks
Cause: The intended font may not have loaded, may not be applied to the text, or may not cover the characters and combinations shown. A successful document.fonts.ready wait is not a glyph-coverage test.

Fix: Inspect the rendered image, the page’s applied CSS, the declared font face, and the font network requests. If a specific face is required, request it with representative Devanagari text using document.fonts.load(), then inspect the screenshot again. Do not infer correct rendering solely from a resolved promise.

The font wait or screenshot stalls
Cause: A font request or browser capture may be delayed or failing. One reported example describes Linux WebKit screenshot capture waiting on fonts and timing out with Playwright 1.63.0, while a 1.60.0 control succeeded. That issue report is a version-specific example, not confirmation of a general Playwright behavior, root cause, or official workaround.
Fix: Record the Playwright, browser-engine, and operating-system versions; inspect font-face states and failed font requests; and check the report’s status at Playwright issue #42986. Avoid silently bypassing font readiness when correct rendering is required.
