Use it as context—not as proof that a sale is a bargain or that the price cannot fall further. The useful question is whether this exact offer meets your needs and your own target price.
Where to find Amazon price history
Open the product listing for the exact item you are considering and look for the Price history link near the price. Amazon also describes accessing price history through Alexa for Shopping in the Amazon Shopping app or desktop interface. Availability may vary by listing and region; Amazon’s guidance describes the feature on eligible product pages. Amazon explains how to use its price-history feature.

Before reading the chart, confirm that the listing matches the offer: check the model, size, color, bundle, and condition. A chart for a different variation may not be a useful comparison.
How to read the 30-, 90-, and 365-day views
Use the available time ranges to answer different questions. Amazon describes 30-, 90-, and 365-day views; not every view is necessarily available for every listing.
#1 Best Overall
- Your favorite music and content – Play music, audiobooks, and podcasts from Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify and others or via Bluetooth throughout your home.
- Alexa is happy to help – Ask Alexa for weather updates and to set hands-free timers, get answers to your questions and even hear jokes. Need a few extra minutes in the morning? Just tap your Echo Dot to snooze your alarm.
- Keep your home comfortable – Control compatible smart home devices with your voice and routines triggered by built-in motion or indoor temperature sensors. Create routines to automatically turn on lights when you walk into a room, or start a fan if the inside temperature goes above your comfort zone.
- Do more with device pairing – Fill your home with music using compatible Echo devices in different rooms, or create a home theatre system with Fire TV.
- Say goodbye to drop-offs and buffering - With eero Built-in, Echo Dot doubles as a mesh wifi extender, adding up to 1,000 sq. ft. of wifi coverage to your existing eero network.
- 30 days: Has the item been on sale recently, and is today’s price near a short-term low?
- 90 days: How does today compare with a broader recent period?
- 365 days: Where does today sit against the full year of displayed history, when that view is available?
A low over 30 days and a low over 365 days are not the same claim. A short-window low can still be ordinary across a full year. Conversely, a price near a yearly low may be a strong historical offer without guaranteeing that it will not drop again. Amazon’s official guidance also suggests asking, “Is this the lowest price recently?”—the chart helps answer that question for the period shown, not predict the next price.
What Amazon’s price labels mean
A crossed-out price or discount badge is not enough to establish that an offer is unusually good. Amazon distinguishes between reference prices, and those labels should not be treated as interchangeable.

- Typical Price or “Was” Price: Amazon says this is the median price customers paid on Amazon in the last 90 days, excluding prices during limited-time deals.
- List Price: Amazon describes this as a validated manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) reference.
These are different comparisons: one reflects a recent median paid price under Amazon’s stated calculation, while the other references a validated MSRP. Neither determines what the item is worth to you. Amazon explains these terms in its overview of its approach to genuine deals.

Decide whether today’s offer is worth buying
- Compare today’s price with the chart. Note whether it is near a recent low, within the usual range, or merely below a higher reference price.
- Set your own worthwhile price. Consider what the item does for you and the amount you would be comfortable paying, rather than relying on the displayed percentage off.
- Factor in timing. If the price is above your target and you can wait, hold off and monitor it. If it meets your target, the item is the right one, and you need it now, the history can give you context for buying with more confidence.
- Verify the offer before checkout. Confirm the seller, condition, selected variation, coupon eligibility, shipping, and final checkout total. Treat those details as part of the offer you are evaluating; do not assume the chart represents every seller-specific promotion, coupon, shipping charge, or account-specific discount.
The chart describes past prices, not future ones. It can help you judge whether today looks unusually low against the history shown, but it cannot decide whether the product suits you or whether waiting is the better choice.

When to set a price alert
If the current price does not meet your target and the purchase is not urgent, an alert can save you from repeatedly checking the listing. Amazon describes target-price alerts as part of its price-history guidance. Amazon’s instructions cover its price-history and alert features.
As an optional third-party tool, CamelCamelCamel says it offers price-history charts, price watches, email alerts, and a browser extension. A watch or alert is a way to monitor a price, not a promise that it will reach your target or that a future offer will be worthwhile. Amazon’s built-in history is the primary option if you do not want to use a separate service.
