To loop a prerecorded video during a scheduled YouTube Live event, enable looping in OBS Studio, schedule the broadcast separately in YouTube Studio, and start OBS early enough to check the Live Control Room preview. Scheduling creates the upcoming event and watch page; it does not make OBS start sending your video automatically. If auto-start is off, you must click Go live after checking the preview.
How the scheduled event and loop work together
There are two separate parts: YouTube Studio creates the scheduled broadcast, while OBS sends the audiovisual feed. The loop is a playback setting in OBS, not a YouTube scheduling feature. Google’s API documentation likewise models a broadcast and its incoming stream as separate resources: YouTube Live Streaming API broadcasts.

A scheduled event can appear as upcoming so viewers can open its watch page and opt into a notification. At the scheduled time, however, the encoder still needs to send video. The usual sequence is: schedule the event, start OBS, confirm the preview, then go live manually unless the event is configured for auto-start.
Choose a single-video loop or a playlist
Repeat one video
Use OBS’s built-in Media Source. Select the local file and enable Loop in the source properties. Loop is off by default. OBS documents support for common formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, and WebM. The source repeats the file only while it is active; this setting does not schedule OBS to launch or run unattended. See the OBS Media Sources guide.

Use OBS’s VLC Video source to make a playlist. It offers loop-playlist and shuffle controls; VLC must be installed for this source to be available. Choose ordered playback or shuffle according to the event you are producing, and preview transitions and audio before the broadcast.
Set up OBS and schedule the YouTube event
- Prepare the OBS scene. Create or open a scene, add a Media Source, select your file, and enable Loop in its properties. Confirm the video appears in the scene and that its audio is routed as intended. For a playlist, add a VLC Video source and configure its playlist and loop or shuffle behavior.
- Schedule the broadcast. In YouTube Studio, select Create, then Go Live, open Manage, and choose Schedule Stream. Create a new event or reuse settings from an earlier stream. Review the title, description, visibility, scheduled time, and other metadata.
- Review reused settings. Reusing settings copies prior metadata, settings, and stream key. Check the copied details, especially the event’s auto-start and auto-stop controls, rather than assuming they match your intention.
- Connect OBS to the scheduled event. In OBS streaming settings, select YouTube if that connection option is offered. Otherwise, copy the scheduled event’s server URL and stream key from YouTube’s Live Control Room into the encoder settings. YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Treat the key as a credential: do not share it publicly. If it is compromised, reset it in Live Control Room and update OBS.

Start the stream and verify it before going live
- Start streaming in OBS so it sends the loop to YouTube. The scheduled time alone does not start the encoder feed.
- Open the event in YouTube’s Live Control Room and wait for the preview. Check that it shows the correct video and that audio is present and at a suitable level.
- If auto-start is disabled, click Go live only after the preview looks right. If auto-start is enabled, confirm the setting for this event and still check the preview and stream health.
- Check the public watch page and, where practical, confirm that it opens as expected on a phone as well as a computer.
YouTube’s preparation guidance recommends configuring the encoder at least two hours ahead and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled event. Use the lead time to confirm access, picture, sound, and stream health rather than waiting until the event is due to begin. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips.

Choose encoder settings that fit your source
There is no single bitrate that suits every loop stream. Choose settings for the source video’s resolution and frame rate, the encoder, and the stability of your upload connection. YouTube publishes recommended encoder settings by codec, resolution, and frame rate; use the values for the format you intend to send instead of applying one bitrate as a universal rule. YouTube also recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport. Review YouTube’s encoder settings, test with representative motion and audio, and monitor stream health during the event.

End the event and understand the archive limit
With manual control, click End Stream in YouTube when the event is finished, then stop sending content from OBS. If auto-stop is enabled, follow the event’s configured behavior and verify the event has ended. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume the same automatic archive treatment for an event that runs longer than 12 hours.
Troubleshoot common problems
- The scheduled event starts, but there is no picture. A scheduled time does not start OBS. Start streaming in OBS, make sure the correct scene and media source are active, then wait for the Live Control Room preview.
- The preview appears, but viewers do not see a live event. If auto-start is off, the encoder feed alone is not the final step. Check the preview and click Go live.
- The wrong event receives the feed. Check that OBS is using the server URL and stream key for the intended scheduled event. Reused settings may carry over an earlier key or other settings.
- The video plays once and stops. Open the Media Source properties and enable Loop. For a playlist, check the VLC Video source’s loop-playlist setting and confirm VLC is installed.
- The picture works but the audio is missing or wrong. Check the source’s audio routing and levels in OBS, then verify sound in the Live Control Room preview before going live.
- YouTube will not accept the encoder connection. Confirm the server URL and key belong to the scheduled event and have been entered correctly. If the key may have been exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and replace the old key in OBS.
- The event does not stop as expected. Check whether auto-stop is enabled. With manual controls, end the event in YouTube and stop OBS from sending content.
Rights and channel-policy checks
Having a video file does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast its picture or soundtrack. Confirm that you have the rights or permission needed for the entire loop, including music and other third-party material. This setup explains how to send a feed; it does not determine whether a particular video is cleared for use or how YouTube will assess a channel’s content.
