A phone number can be associated with no more than two YouTube channels per year. If it has already been used to verify two channels during the applicable annual period, YouTube says to use a different number. Sharing a number does not automatically give both channels live-streaming access: each channel must meet YouTube’s eligibility requirements independently.
What the two-channel phone-number limit means
YouTube’s account-verification guidance says, “To help prevent abuse, a phone number can only be associated with 2 channels per year.” If you see a maximum-number error after the number has reached that limit, YouTube’s stated remedy is to verify with a different phone number. The cited Help page does not specify the exact dates used to calculate the annual period, so check the official verification flow for your account’s result.

This cap concerns phone verification; it is not a rule that two channels sharing a number are automatically eligible or ineligible to stream. A channel’s verification status and live-streaming eligibility must be considered separately.
Live-streaming requirements for each channel
YouTube’s general live-streaming guidance requires the channel to be verified, the creator to be at least 16, and the channel to have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. These requirements apply independently to each channel. A restriction on one account cannot be evaded by switching to another channel while the restriction remains active.

Mobile live streaming has an additional subscriber threshold
For a mobile live stream, YouTube additionally requires at least 50 subscribers, a compatible mobile device, and live streaming turned on. The channel must also be verified and free of live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. YouTube says activation of a first mobile live stream may take up to 24 hours. The 50-subscriber threshold is specific to mobile streaming; do not treat it as a general requirement for every streaming method.
Check verification and feature status
- Open YouTube Studio for the channel you want to stream from.
- Check the channel’s feature eligibility in the channel feature settings. Look for its verification and live-streaming status.
- Complete phone verification if needed using YouTube’s official verification flow. If the number has already been associated with two channels during the applicable year, use a different number.
- Check the channel’s live-streaming status and restrictions separately. For mobile streaming, also confirm the subscriber threshold, device compatibility, and that live streaming is turned on.
For a Brand Account, an owner or manager can verify the channel. For a channel that is not a Brand Account, only its owner can verify it.

Troubleshoot verification and access problems
- “Maximum number of channels” error: The phone number has reached YouTube’s stated two-channel-per-year limit. Use a different number to verify the channel.
- Verification code does not arrive: Try voice delivery instead of text, or text instead of voice. If neither works, YouTube suggests trying a number from a different carrier because some carriers do not support Google messages.
- Verified channel, but live streaming is unavailable: Check for a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days, confirm the creator meets the minimum age requirement, and review the channel’s feature status in YouTube Studio.
- Mobile streaming is unavailable: Confirm the channel has at least 50 subscribers, live streaming is turned on, and the device is compatible. If this is the first mobile stream, activation may take up to 24 hours.
- One shared-number channel works and the other does not: Check each channel’s verification and live eligibility independently; sharing the number does not establish either channel’s status.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a channel that is eligible and needs a pre-recorded video to stay live on YouTube, StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud: upload a recording or make a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; StreamNeo plays the upload at its original quality up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for uploaded videos streamed to YouTube, not live camera broadcasting; it does not change YouTube’s channel eligibility requirements. Start the free day.
